\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 1. Junta\u2019s planned election is a political trap, says Anti-Dictatorship People\u2019s Coordination Committee \u2013 Mandalay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Anti-Dictatorship People\u2019s Coordination Committee \u2013 Mandalay stated that the election being prepared by the terrorist military junta is nothing more than a political maneuver and a political trap designed to ease the immense pressures it is currently facing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee released its position on the junta\u2019s planned election on August 22, declaring that this election is neither a solution nor a way out of Myanmar\u2019s ongoing political crisis. Instead, it will further complicate and intensify the crisis.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Committee, the junta\u2019s so-called election is a calculated political scheme to prolong its grip on power, cover up its multitude of crimes, escape accountability, and lessen the military, political, and general pressures it now faces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It emphasized that since the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) \u2014 in accordance with the will of the people \u2014 has already abolished the junta\u2019s planned election process, there is no legitimacy whatsoever, and the people totally reject it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Committee reaffirmed that the true political roadmap for Myanmar lies in the 12-point Federal Democracy Charter<\/strong>, as well as the common political positions and principles upheld by the National Unity Government (NUG) and all revolutionary forces. These represent the only legitimate and forward path for Myanmar\u2019s political future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It also asserted that the people\u2019s Spring Revolution, which involves participation from all ethnic groups and communities across the country, is the only genuine opportunity to bring Myanmar\u2019s political crisis to an end. Therefore, the Anti-Dictatorship People\u2019s Coordination Committee \u2013 Mandalay vowed that together with the people, they will resist and ultimately dismantle the junta\u2019s illegal and sham election through the collective strength of the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Head of Mission of the German Embassy in Yangon, Mr. Mathias Licharz, said that Myanmar \u2014 which has slipped away from the focus of global attention \u2014 must not be forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mr. Licharz, who only arrived about six months ago to take up his posting as Head of Mission in Yangon, made this statement on August 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He stressed that despite the many global crises, Myanmar must not be neglected. Global attention has shifted largely toward the Middle East and the war in Ukraine, leaving Myanmar overlooked, he explained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He noted that Myanmar, with a population size comparable to France, occupies a strategically significant position in the Indo-Pacific region, making it important for international attention and engagement. As both a diplomat and foreign policy expert, he underlined that Myanmar\u2019s stability directly affects wider regional interests.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since the military\u2019s seizure of power in February 2021, Myanmar has produced no good news, he said. Instead, a decade of fragile democratic progress has been destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He further explained that Myanmar\u2019s conflicts have fueled regional instability, resulting in refugee flows, armed clashes near the borders with China and India, cybercrime, drug trafficking, arms smuggling, and other cross-border security threats.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In this context, Mr. Licharz urged continued international attention to Myanmar and highlighted Germany\u2019s support for Myanmar youth and dedicated citizens who are working hard both at home and abroad to claim their rights. He called for humanitarian support for the people of Myanmar and stressed that continued engagement with the country remains essential.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 3. Earthquake of magnitude 5.6 strikes near Mawlaik<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management of the National Unity Government (NUG) announced that an earthquake measuring 5.6 on the Richter scale<\/strong> struck near Mawlaik in Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The quake occurred at 11:26 AM Myanmar Standard Time on August 22, with its epicenter located about 35 kilometers south-southwest of Mawlaik at a depth of 103 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Previously, on August 21 at around 9:30 AM, another earthquake measuring 4.7 on the Richter scale<\/strong> struck near the southern coastal region of Myanmar, about 66 kilometers southeast of Thongwa, Yangon Region, at a depth of 10 kilometers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
