Four civilians injured by junta drone strike in Hpakant; clashes continue to intensify<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Hpakant Township, Kachin State<\/strong>, the military junta carried out a&nbsp;<strong>drone bombing attack<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Sain Taung Village<\/strong>&nbsp;at around&nbsp;<strong>10:20 AM on August 18<\/strong>, despite there being&nbsp;<strong>no active clashes in the area<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local sources,&nbsp;<strong>three women and one man were injured<\/strong>, and their conditions are reported to be&nbsp;<strong>serious and concerning<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy clashes continue to erupt in and around Hpakant. On&nbsp;<strong>August 17<\/strong>, the junta launched&nbsp;<strong>airstrikes near Ahmyaukpon Village and Nyaungpinkone<\/strong>, with fighting around Nyaungpinkone lasting until after 5:00 PM. The junta also fired&nbsp;<strong>nearly 70 artillery shells<\/strong>&nbsp;from its bases at Hpakant Battalion Headquarters, Aye Myit Saya, and Latma Hill.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports indicate that the junta has been&nbsp;<strong>deliberately targeting civilian areas and non-conflict zones<\/strong>&nbsp;in Hpakant using drones and heavy artillery. Over the past two years, such attacks have left&nbsp;<strong>nearly 240 civilians injured and 65 dead<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>2. Resistance forces attack junta outpost in Paungde, killing 5 and capturing 3 soldiers<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<strong>Paungde Township People\u2019s Defense Force (PDF)<\/strong>, an attack was carried out against a&nbsp;<strong>junta checkpoint outpost<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Bawdar Village, Paungde Township, Pyay District, Bago Region<\/strong>, resulting in&nbsp;<strong>five junta soldiers killed and three captured alive<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attack took place at&nbsp;<strong>5:20 AM on August 15<\/strong>, targeting a junta outpost manned by&nbsp;<strong>42 soldiers<\/strong>. Resistance forces fired upon the outpost, leading to&nbsp;<strong>five deaths, three injuries, and three soldiers taken prisoner<\/strong>, while many others reportedly&nbsp;<strong>abandoned their post and fled<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation was jointly conducted by&nbsp;<strong>PDF Battalions 3601 (Pyay District No.1), 3602 (Pyay District No.2), and 3501 (Taungoo District No.1)<\/strong>, operating under&nbsp;<strong>Operation Zone 21<\/strong>. During the raid, resistance forces&nbsp;<strong>burned down four junta outpost bunkers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Captured weapons and equipment include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>2 MA-3 rifles<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 MA-11 rifle<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 Uzi submachine gun<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 pistol<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>276 assorted rounds of ammunition<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 landmine<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>13 magazines<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 iCom radio<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>4 mobile phones<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>1 communication station, along with other military equipment<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the battle, the junta retaliated by conducting&nbsp;<strong>aerial bombings on civilian areas<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Around\u00a0<strong>11:00 AM<\/strong>, a\u00a0<strong>gyrocopter<\/strong>\u00a0dropped a\u00a0<strong>300-pound bomb<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Around\u00a0<strong>7:00 PM<\/strong>, two\u00a0<strong>paramotors<\/strong>\u00a0dropped\u00a0<strong>four 300-pound bombs<\/strong>\u00a0on\u00a0<strong>Kyainchaung Village<\/strong>, killing\u00a0<strong>six civilians and injuring five others<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>3. Junta airstrikes hit two monasteries in Depayin and Wetlet, killing 5 including monks, injuring at least 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The junta carried out&nbsp;<strong>airstrikes on two monasteries<\/strong>:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Mokone Monastery<\/strong>\u00a0in\u00a0<strong>Mu Kham Gyi Village, Depayin Township<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Nabepin Hla Village Monastery in Wetlet Township<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local networks in Depayin and Wetlet, the first attack occurred at&nbsp;<strong>1:32 PM on August 18<\/strong>, when the junta bombed&nbsp;<strong>Mokone Monastery<\/strong>, killing&nbsp;<strong>two kappiya (lay attendants), one monk, and two civilians<\/strong>, with several others critically injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later, at&nbsp;<strong>9:51 and 9:52 PM<\/strong>, a junta&nbsp;<strong>jet fighter dropped bombs twice<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Nabepin Hla Monastery<\/strong>. The strike injured&nbsp;<strong>one monk, a 70-year-old woman, and an 11-year-old child<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, several monastery buildings, including&nbsp;<strong>monastic halls and religious facilities<\/strong>, were destroyed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>4. Tatmadaw\u2019s Light Infantry Division 88 column suffers ambush in Minbuu Township\u20147 killed; retaliates by burning 27 houses in Oo Pyin Mae Village<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the morning of&nbsp;<strong>August 17<\/strong>, a military column from the junta\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>Light Infantry Division 88<\/strong>, which had departed from&nbsp;<strong>Zi Ai Village<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Minbuu Township<\/strong>, advanced through the villages of&nbsp;<strong>Sikaw, Pintale, Kanthet, and Aima<\/strong>, conducting raids and harassment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As the column continued toward&nbsp;<strong>Oo Pyin Mae Village<\/strong>, it was ambushed by resistance forces in a concealed attack between&nbsp;<strong>Aima and Oo Pyin Mae villages<\/strong>. According to local sources, the clash resulted in&nbsp;<strong>seven junta soldiers killed<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>many more wounded<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In retaliation, the junta troops entered&nbsp;<strong>Oo Pyin Mae Village<\/strong>, where they&nbsp;<strong>set fire to 27 houses<\/strong>, deliberately destroying civilian property. Additionally, a&nbsp;<strong>pavilion at the entrance of the village<\/strong>&nbsp;was struck by a&nbsp;<strong>drone bomb attack<\/strong>, causing further damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>5. Junta troops in Demoso Township use civilians as human shields and execute unlawful killings<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Demoso Township, Karenni State<\/strong>, junta forces have been&nbsp;<strong>detaining civilians to use as human shields<\/strong>&nbsp;while also carrying out&nbsp;<strong>extrajudicial killings<\/strong>, according to a statement released by&nbsp;<strong>SSNDF\/KNDF Battalion 103<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>August 8<\/strong>, junta forces launched a column into Demoso Township. Since then, they have been accused of committing atrocities including&nbsp;<strong>arbitrary arrests, unlawful shootings of civilians, and forcing detainees to act as human shields<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reports indicate that civilians were compelled to walk in front of the column as protection and to transport military supplies. In one incident, troops entering a village allegedly&nbsp;<strong>shot and killed travelers on a main road without questioning them<\/strong>&nbsp;and carried out arbitrary detentions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Due to the situation, the&nbsp;<strong>KNDF<\/strong>&nbsp;has urged the public to strictly adhere to its earlier&nbsp;<strong>August 10 safety directive<\/strong>, which warned civilians&nbsp;<strong>not to use the Union Highway between Loikaw\u2013Demoso\u2013Hpruso, nor the connecting feeder roads<\/strong>, in order to avoid being targeted or caught in clashes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>6. Civilian casualties from junta airstrike in Salin and arson attacks in Monywa<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Salin Township, Magway Region<\/strong>, the junta carried out an airstrike on&nbsp;<strong>Moe Kyo Pyin Taung Village<\/strong>&nbsp;at approximately&nbsp;<strong>2:17 PM on August 18<\/strong>, using a&nbsp;<strong>paramotor aircraft (launched from Namma Camp)<\/strong>, according to an announcement by the&nbsp;<strong>MRI<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the attack, a bomb fell directly on a civilian home, killing&nbsp;<strong>one woman<\/strong>&nbsp;instantly. A&nbsp;<strong>man suffered an amputation injury<\/strong>&nbsp;to his leg, while&nbsp;<strong>two other men<\/strong>&nbsp;were also injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Meanwhile, in&nbsp;<strong>Monywa Township<\/strong>, junta forces began&nbsp;<strong>burning houses in Kyauk Ka Taung Village<\/strong>&nbsp;at around&nbsp;<strong>7:00 PM on August 18<\/strong>. The fires continued to spread until at least&nbsp;<strong>8:05 PM<\/strong>, destroying civilian homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>7. Junta launches fresh airstrikes on Thibaw and Mongmit towns in northern Shan State\u20144 civilians injured<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 18<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>PSLF\/TNLA<\/strong>&nbsp;reported that junta forces launched&nbsp;<strong>renewed airstrikes<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Thibaw (Hsipaw) and Mongmit towns<\/strong>, located in&nbsp;<strong>TNLA-controlled areas of northern Shan State<\/strong>, injuring&nbsp;<strong>four civilians<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At around&nbsp;<strong>9:30 AM on August 18<\/strong>, junta aircraft dropped&nbsp;<strong>two 250-pound bombs<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>Hsipaw\u2019s West Ward and South Ward<\/strong>. The attack injured three civilians:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>U Jama Paing (aged 60)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daw Cho Cho Sein (around 30 years old)<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daw Shwe Yee Win<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally,&nbsp;<strong>seven civilian houses were destroyed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Later the same day, at approximately&nbsp;<strong>3:10 PM<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>fighter jet<\/strong>&nbsp;dropped&nbsp;<strong>two 250-pound bombs<\/strong>&nbsp;near the&nbsp;<strong>clock tower in Kyet Pyin, western Mongmit<\/strong>.
