Artillery Strike by Military Junta in Hpakant Kills 3 Civilians, Injures 16<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local sources,&nbsp;<strong>an artillery attack by junta forces<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Hpakant Township<\/strong>, Kachin State, has resulted in the&nbsp;<strong>death of 3 civilians<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>injuries to 16 others<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attack occurred at around&nbsp;<strong>7 PM on August 5<\/strong>, when artillery shells were fired from a military base on&nbsp;<strong>Hpakant Strategic Hill<\/strong>. The shells landed and exploded in&nbsp;<strong>Sharaw Ka Village<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Yuma Village<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Sharaw Ka Village<\/strong>, one male civilian was killed and a house was destroyed by fire. In&nbsp;<strong>Yuma Village<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>two civilians were killed<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>16 were injured<\/strong>&nbsp;as a result of the shelling.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9<strong>&nbsp;2. Police Training Battalion No. (3) in Sagaing Attacked by Drone<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Kaung Htet District Drone Unit<\/strong>&nbsp;announced that a&nbsp;<strong>drone attack<\/strong>&nbsp;was launched on&nbsp;<strong>Police Training Battalion No. (3)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Sagaing City<\/strong>, Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>August 4 at around 3:30 PM<\/strong>, while police officers were assembled in formation,&nbsp;<strong>two 3-kg drone bombs<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>two 1-kg drone bombs<\/strong>&nbsp;were accurately dropped on the battalion grounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The attack reportedly killed&nbsp;<strong>15 people on the spot<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>one officer<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>many others were seriously injured<\/strong>, including the&nbsp;<strong>son of a senior-ranking officer (Lt. Col. \u2013 2-star)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The building where the officer resided was also&nbsp;<strong>completely destroyed<\/strong>&nbsp;in the assault.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The coordinated drone strike was carried out by a joint force including&nbsp;<strong>Kaung Htet District Drone Battalion No. 1844<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Aung Thapyay Brothers (Kaung Htet PDF)<\/strong>, and the&nbsp;<strong>Myittha People\u2019s Defense Force<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9<strong>&nbsp;3. Three Junta Soldiers Killed in Guerrilla Attack on Military Vehicle in Natogyi Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Natogyi Township<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Myingyan District<\/strong>, Mandalay Region, a&nbsp;<strong>junta vehicle carrying five soldiers<\/strong>&nbsp;was ambushed by guerrilla forces, resulting in&nbsp;<strong>three deaths<\/strong>, according to a statement by&nbsp;<strong>Natogyi PDF Battalion 4\/10<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ambush took place at&nbsp;<strong>3:12 PM on August 6<\/strong>, on the&nbsp;<strong>Kana \u2013 Pyinsi Road<\/strong>, where PDF members opened fire on the military vehicle.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the attack,&nbsp;<strong>three junta soldiers were killed<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>two managed to flee<\/strong>. The resistance fighters seized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 M79 grenade launcher<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3 MA-3 assault rifles<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>215 rounds of 5.56 mm ammunition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 40mm grenade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 hand grenade<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>5 magazines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, the&nbsp;<strong>vehicle used by the junta troops was set on fire and destroyed<\/strong>. The PDF forces reportedly&nbsp;<strong>retreated safely without any casualties<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9<strong>&nbsp;4. Junta Police Outpost at Mile 188\/7 on Expressway Attacked<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a statement by the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Defence Force (PDF) Meikhtila<\/strong>, a junta&nbsp;<strong>police outpost located at Mile 188\/7<\/strong>&nbsp;on the&nbsp;<strong>Yangon\u2013Mandalay Expressway<\/strong>&nbsp;was&nbsp;<strong>attacked<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>assault occurred at around 4:00 AM on August 5<\/strong>, when the PDF forces entered and launched an attack on the outpost. A&nbsp;<strong>close-quarters firefight<\/strong>&nbsp;ensued, lasting for about&nbsp;<strong>30 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the clash,&nbsp;<strong>2 junta-affiliated police personnel were killed<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>one PDF fighter<\/strong>&nbsp;from the allied forces&nbsp;<strong>sustained minor injuries<\/strong>. The resistance forces were able to&nbsp;<strong>retreat successfully<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The operation was jointly carried out by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Meikhtila District Battalion 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Myingyan District Battalion 8<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>PDF forces from Malun Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9<strong>&nbsp;5. 23 Junta Soldiers Defect to Resistance Forces in Tanintharyi, Kalaywa, and Pakokku Townships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A total of&nbsp;<strong>23 junta troops<\/strong>&nbsp;have&nbsp;<strong>defected to resistance forces<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Tanintharyi, Kalaywa<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Pakokku Townships<\/strong>, according to public announcements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 30<\/strong>, a soldier from&nbsp;<strong>Battalion 557<\/strong>, based in&nbsp;<strong>Aukkine Village<\/strong>, Tanintharyi Region,&nbsp;<strong>surrendered along with his weapon<\/strong>&nbsp;to the&nbsp;<strong>Tanintharyi People\u2019s Defence Force (PaKaHpa)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defector brought with him:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 MA2 assault rifle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 magazine<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>18 bullets<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was&nbsp;<strong>warmly received<\/strong>&nbsp;by the resistance and will be&nbsp;<strong>awarded a recognition reward<\/strong>, sources say.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, two junta soldiers:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One from the&nbsp;<strong>Aung Chan Tha village outpost<\/strong>, and<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One from the&nbsp;<strong>Ma Sein village outpost<\/strong>, both in&nbsp;<strong>Kalaywa Township<\/strong>,<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Defected with weapons to&nbsp;<strong>Kalay District Battalion No. 9<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The two defectors handed over:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 KO12 rifle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>1 MA1 rifle<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>3 magazines<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>421 rounds of ammunition<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>A full set of military equipment<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In recognition of their defection,&nbsp;<strong>Kalay District Battalion 9<\/strong>, in coordination with&nbsp;<strong>Kalaywa PaKaHpa<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>PaKaf (People\u2019s Administration Committees)<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>awarded them a total of 8 million kyats<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, between&nbsp;<strong>July 12 and August 5<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>20 forcibly conscripted recruits<\/strong>&nbsp;from units under&nbsp;<strong>Military Operations Command (MOC) 101<\/strong>&nbsp;based in&nbsp;<strong>Pakokku<\/strong>&nbsp;also&nbsp;<strong>defected<\/strong>, according to the&nbsp;<strong>Burma Revolution Rangers<\/strong>.<br>These defectors were&nbsp;<strong>originally conscripted<\/strong>&nbsp;from towns such as:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Sagaing<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Mandalay<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Yesagyo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Shwebo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Naypyidaw<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They had been assigned to&nbsp;<strong>Light Infantry Battalions 251, 252, and 235<\/strong>, stationed in&nbsp;<strong>Pakokku<\/strong>, and defected in&nbsp;<strong>small groups over successive days<\/strong>.<br>As they had&nbsp;<strong>not yet been armed<\/strong>, they did&nbsp;<strong>not bring any weapons<\/strong>.
