Monk severely injured after stepping on landmine while clearing grounds in Kyaukme<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A monk from&nbsp;<strong>Natsitlin Monastery<\/strong>, located in Ward 2 of&nbsp;<strong>Kyaukme Town<\/strong>, 2nd Military Region, Ta\u2019ang State, was severely injured after stepping on a landmine while clearing the monastery grounds, according to a statement from the&nbsp;<strong>TNLA<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred at&nbsp;<strong>2:30 PM on August 2<\/strong>, when&nbsp;<strong>U Nanda<\/strong>, the monk, accidentally stepped on the landmine within the monastery compound. The explosion resulted in the&nbsp;<strong>amputation of his right leg<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was transported by a charitable organization to&nbsp;<strong>Lashio Hospital<\/strong>&nbsp;for medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, on&nbsp;<strong>July 15<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Daw Aye Win<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Huson Village<\/strong>, Mongngaw Township, also stepped on a landmine near a tamarind tree while on her way to a tea plantation. TDPF issues travel warning for Myeik-Palaw and Myeik-Bokpyin highways due to imminent attacks on junta-occupied areas<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>August 4<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>Tanintharyi People\u2019s Defense Force (TDPF)<\/strong>&nbsp;has issued a travel advisory on&nbsp;<strong>August 3<\/strong>, warning the public to exercise caution while traveling on the&nbsp;<strong>Myeik\u2013Palaw Union Highway (Route 8)<\/strong>&nbsp;and the&nbsp;<strong>Myeik\u2013Bokpyin Highway<\/strong>, as attacks on areas occupied by the junta could occur at any time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to TDPF, junta forces have been operating military convoys within&nbsp;<strong>Palaw<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Tanintharyi townships<\/strong>, which fall under Military Zone 35 of the resistance command structure. This has resulted in ongoing clashes with local&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Defense Forces (PDFs)<\/strong>&nbsp;operating in those areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Palaw Township<\/strong>, junta artillery fire killed&nbsp;<strong>10 displaced civilians<\/strong>&nbsp;who were taking refuge in a previously safe area. In&nbsp;<strong>Tanintharyi Township<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>10 civilians<\/strong>&nbsp;from villages located in junta-occupied zones were reportedly&nbsp;<strong>arrested and forcibly conscripted<\/strong>&nbsp;into military service.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As such, the TDPF has&nbsp;<strong>declared that it will launch attacks on junta-occupied positions at any time<\/strong>. Those who wish to return home have been safely repatriated, while those unable to return for security reasons or who refuse to return have been offered job opportunities and are being humanely held.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The clashes occurred in&nbsp;<strong>Taung Su village<\/strong>, Moo Township, within the&nbsp;<strong>Kler Lwee Htoo District<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<strong>KNU-administered region<\/strong>, where the&nbsp;<strong>Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)<\/strong>&nbsp;and allied forces launched a coordinated attack on junta columns that had established temporary positions on&nbsp;<strong>June 25, 2025<\/strong>. The assault resulted in the&nbsp;<strong>capture of 23 junta soldiers<\/strong>&nbsp;and a significant cache of weapons and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Simultaneously, in a battle that took place in&nbsp;<strong>Taw Wi village<\/strong>, under&nbsp;<strong>Leiktho Township administration<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>3 more junta soldiers<\/strong>&nbsp;were captured along with additional weapons and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>26 captured soldiers<\/strong>&nbsp;from both battles are being held at&nbsp;<strong>Battalion 9<\/strong>, in accordance with military law. Those wishing to return to their families have been transported home, while others\u2014either unwilling or unable to return\u2014are being&nbsp;<strong>provided with employment and held under humane conditions<\/strong>, the KNU stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the KNU,&nbsp;<strong>most of the captured soldiers were victims of forced conscription<\/strong>.
