\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9 1. KNU Strongly Rejects Military Council’s Allegations Regarding Lapat Village Incident<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Karen National Union (KNU)<\/strong> has issued a strong rejection of the military council\u2019s allegations<\/strong> that joint forces of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)<\/strong> and People\u2019s Defense Forces (PDFs)<\/strong> killed 13 civilians<\/strong> and injured 15 others<\/strong> in Lapat Village<\/strong>. The KNU declared the accusations to be entirely false and baseless<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the KNU’s official statement, these allegations were deliberately fabricated by the junta with the intent to mislead both the local populace and the international community<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Based on their ground-level investigations, the KNU confirmed that civilian casualties in Lapat Village<\/strong> were the result of military council offensives<\/strong>, not attacks by the resistance forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the clashes, civilians in Lapat Village were trapped amid the conflict. The KNLA and PDF joint forces rescued some of the trapped civilians<\/strong> and helped move them to safety, the KNU added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, they stated that civilians were killed<\/strong> when the junta\u2019s support column from Lae Daw (Kyaukkyi)<\/strong> launched attacks with small arms, heavy weapons, and airstrikes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KNU emphasized that junta forces have intentionally positioned their troops and Pyu Saw Htee militia groups in civilian areas<\/strong>, leading to civilian harm during their military operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They firmly clarified that the KNLA and PDF operations strictly target junta forces<\/strong> and that there is no intent to harm civilians<\/strong> in any of their offensives.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KNU reported that during battles around Lapat Village<\/strong>, 32 junta-aligned personnel<\/strong>\u201418 junta soldiers<\/strong> and 14 Pyu Saw Htee militia members<\/strong>\u2014were killed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, the KNU stated that the military council’s sustained use of heavy weapons and airstrikes<\/strong> in retaliation has exacerbated the threat to civilians<\/strong> in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They also suggested that the junta\u2019s media dissemination about the incident may have been initiated by Lt. Colonel Zeya Lin<\/strong> from the junta’s Military Intelligence Unit 60<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KNU affirmed that the current statement is a result of their on-ground investigations and a commitment to exposing the truth<\/strong>. They reiterated their obligation to protect civilians<\/strong> and to uphold the truth, while strongly denouncing the junta\u2019s false propaganda<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The KNU has called on the international community to conduct independent investigations<\/strong> into the incident and the junta\u2019s claims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Resistance forces<\/strong> have cleared road obstructions in Kama Town<\/strong> that were set up by junta troops<\/strong> during a recent temporary deployment, which had caused disruptions and difficulties for local civilians<\/strong>, according to official reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Junta troops, fearing attacks from resistance forces during their stay, had blocked roads using sandbags, wooden barricades, and even furniture taken from civilian homes<\/strong>. Uniforms<\/strong> were also reportedly seized and recovered by resistance units.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
