CRPH Chairperson U Aung Kyi Nyunt Addresses IPU Parliamentary Forum on Junta&#8217;s Ongoing Violence and Human Rights Violations; Meets with UN and Malaysian Permanent Representatives on Myanmar Crisis<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 22<\/strong>, a Myanmar parliamentary delegation led by&nbsp;<strong>U Aung Kyi Nyunt<\/strong>, Chairperson of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), attended the&nbsp;<strong>United Nations High-Level Political Forum on Sustainable Development<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>New York City, USA<\/strong>, held under the theme&nbsp;<strong>&#8220;Gender equality and health: fast forwarding progress&#8221;<\/strong>, organized by the&nbsp;<strong>Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the forum, the Myanmar delegation addressed the severe degradation of Myanmar\u2019s&nbsp;<strong>healthcare system following the military coup<\/strong>, explaining that&nbsp;<strong>widespread poverty<\/strong>&nbsp;has driven the public into&nbsp;<strong>both physical and mental health crises<\/strong>, while&nbsp;<strong>displaced civilians<\/strong>&nbsp;continue to lack&nbsp;<strong>shelter, food, clean drinking water, and medicine<\/strong>. The delegation urged the&nbsp;<strong>international community<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>expand humanitarian support<\/strong>&nbsp;for the people of Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>They further highlighted that prior to the coup,&nbsp;<strong>female representation in Myanmar\u2019s parliament stood at 15%<\/strong>, and that&nbsp;<strong>women have been actively involved in leadership roles within the National Unity Government (NUG)<\/strong>&nbsp;and the CRPH, particularly in shaping inclusive policies. They emphasized that&nbsp;<strong>gender equality remains a core objective<\/strong>&nbsp;in building a future&nbsp;<strong>federal democratic Myanmar<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The delegation also denounced the&nbsp;<strong>military\u2019s prolonged campaign of gender-based violence<\/strong>, both&nbsp;<strong>physically and digitally<\/strong>, against women\u2014including&nbsp;<strong>sexual violence in detention<\/strong>, and the&nbsp;<strong>lack of adequate medical care<\/strong>&nbsp;for imprisoned women. These grave human rights abuses were specifically discussed at the forum.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CRPH Chairperson U Aung Kyi Nyunt was joined by:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Daw Myat Thet Thun<\/strong>\u00a0(Chair, International Relations Committee),<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daw Mya Mya Aye<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Daw Phyu Phyu Lwin<\/strong><br>as representatives in the forum.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Following the forum, U Aung Kyi Nyunt held&nbsp;<strong>bilateral discussions<\/strong>&nbsp;with:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>H.E. ASEAN Continues to Shield the Violent Military Junta, Says Defend Myanmar Democracy<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Defend Myanmar Democracy<\/strong>&nbsp;has declared that&nbsp;<strong>ASEAN must end its ongoing legitimization and protection of Myanmar\u2019s military junta<\/strong>, urging the regional bloc to&nbsp;<strong>stand with the people of Myanmar and the pro-democracy movement<\/strong>, rather than supporting&nbsp;<strong>uniformed murderers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt has been&nbsp;<strong>28 years<\/strong>&nbsp;since ASEAN welcomed Myanmar\u2019s military regime into its regional framework, claiming that its strategy of &#8216;constructive engagement&#8217; would pave the way for reforms. Instead, ASEAN granted the military&nbsp;<strong>international legitimacy<\/strong>, strengthened their&nbsp;<strong>grip on power<\/strong>, and ultimately exposed the people of Myanmar to&nbsp;<strong>decades of violence and repression<\/strong>.
