Wa Region Rescue Officer Dies While Trying to Save Drowning Victims in Flood-Hit Mong Pawk<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 23<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In&nbsp;<strong>Mong Pawk<\/strong>, a town in the&nbsp;<strong>Wa Self-Administered Region<\/strong>&nbsp;in eastern&nbsp;<strong>Shan State<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>rescue officer from the Wa State Army (UWSA)<\/strong>&nbsp;was swept away and drowned while attempting to rescue individuals caught in strong floodwaters, according to a&nbsp;<strong>statement released by the United Wa State Army (UWSA)<\/strong>&nbsp;on July 23.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Heavy rains began in Mong Pawk on&nbsp;<strong>July 20<\/strong>, leading to&nbsp;<strong>flash floods<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>July 21<\/strong>, particularly from mountain runoff. By&nbsp;<strong>5 a.m. on July 22<\/strong>, the flooding had worsened, reaching into the town area and sweeping away vehicles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the statement, a&nbsp;<strong>white vehicle<\/strong>&nbsp;carrying several passengers was swept away by the current.
