From\u00a017<\/span>th<\/span> January to 19<\/span>th<\/span> January of 2015, the Noble-Myanmar\u00a0<\/span>Literary Festival was held at National Theatre, Myoma School(Kyaung) Road,\u00a0<\/span>Rangoon. It celebrates the Burmese writers, poets, and cartoonists, refers to\u00a0<\/span>joyful gatherings of people. Number of people together especially for the book\u00a0<\/span>lovers would come, and rejoice over happy event.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Two\u00a0days before the festival, a friend of mine, Ms. Nilanjana Semgupta emailed and\u00a0informed me that she was going to give a talk about her coming book; \u2018Khin Myo\u00a0Chit to Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019 on 19th<\/sup> January at 9:50 AM at National\u00a0Theatre. Khin Myo Chit was my grandma, and a writer of Colourful Burma, Anawrahta\u00a0of Burma, etc. I promised her that my parents would also attend and listen to hertalk.<\/span><\/div>\n
<\/div>\n
On\u00a0the 19th<\/sup> January of 2015, the second day of the festival, I came\u00a0there with excitement. The National Theatre was a place especially the annual\u00a0Academy Award Ceremonies were held. When I was at the entrance, outside the
\nNational Theatre, I saw cartoon exhibition at the left hand side, and the\u00a0souvenirs shops where notebooks, bags, key-chains, cups, plates, and T-shirts, etc were\u00a0shown at the right hand side of the front corner. I bought\u00a0 bags, and\u00a0key-chains for my brother.<\/span><\/div>\n

Inside\u00a0the National Theatre, the talk program was started. Mr.Harald Bockman firstly\u00a0talked about the Noble Prize, and the Noble Prize winner of DawAung San SuuKyi.\u00a0He also mentioned the name Mr.Kuloy who was from the UNICEF, and also the\u00a0publisher of Tamarind Press.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\u00a0I knew Mr.Kuloy very well. He was an old friend of\u00a0my grandparents. He published my grandma\u2019s two books; \u2018A Wonderland of Burmese\u00a0Legends\u2019 and \u2018Flowers and Festivals Round the Burmese Year\u2019. Mr. Harald Bockman

After his talk, came Ms.Nilanjana.\u00a0She talked about her book; \u2018The Female Voice of Myanmar: Khin Myo Chit to Aung\u00a0San Suu Kyi\u2019, and showed some photos of grandma to the audience.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

She mentioned\u00a0my name in her talk when she pointed one of the family photos, and added that I\u00a0was present here today. After the talk, we met her, and said thanks her, and\u00a0congratulate her.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n

I\u00a0was again outside the National Theatre, and I saw there were talks and\u00a0discussions programs of writers and poets held in three separate places\/tents at\u00a0some corners, delivered before an audience. It was a public speaking, and a joyful\u00a0gathering of all the people who loved poems and novels. They were coming\u00a0together, and enjoying listening the talk, and discussion. A writer or poet\u00a0expressed feelings, ideas or opinions, or relate experiences to the audience.
\n<\/span><\/div>\n
Some read a short story as a play-reading. Some talked on a given topic such as\u00a0modern art, children stories, philosophy, or post-modern, etc. We could hear\u00a0their talk at distance, because they used microphone, and large sound boxes. But\u00a0all the talks and discussions, or play-reading programs were held in the same\u00a0time. It was not possible to attend and listen to all. <\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\u00a0There,\u00a0cartoons, drawings and photos were shown at one of the corners. It was like a\u00a0small gallery exhibiting the artist\u2019s work. The various cartoons which hung on\u00a0ports or walls at the left and right hand side of the open ground. The viewers\u00a0did not want to miss a bit of that pieces of cartoons and drawings, and took\u00a0photos of some as favorite. I saw some cartoonists drew the caricature of their\u00a0cartoons-lovers. We all had a good chance to meet our favorite writers, poets,\u00a0and cartoonists at the Noble-Myanmar Literary Festival, and listened to their\u00a0talk or took photos with them.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

\u00a0There\u00a0were rows of book stalls, and hundreds of bookshops at one of the temporary\u00a0roofs, made with strong cloth, which attracted people to browse them the whole\u00a0day. People walked through the never-ending book fare paradise. <\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

People would\u00a0not worry for their lunch, because there was a Burmese cuisine shop at the near\u00a0corner, and we enjoyed the delicious Burmese food, and could take a rest there.\u00a0People could watch Writers\u2019s Theatre, plays, and music at night in the National\u00a0Theatre. It would be played until mid-night.\u00a0<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n

Epilogue<\/span><\/div>\n
People \u00a0enjoyed and wandered for hours in the Noble Myanmar Literary Land. Where people\u00a0may wander and browse for hours and come away finally loaded with bundle of\u00a0books, and pretty little things. I was happy to wander around the festival\u00a0grounds never boring watching colorful things all-around me. I left the place\u00a0when I became tired, and left behind me was the air thick with the sound of\u00a0talks of writers and poets which were still marching on.<\/span><\/div>\n\n\n\n\n
