A meeting was held on July 18<\/strong> from 4:00 PM to 6:30 PM<\/strong> between the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC)<\/strong> and the Mandalay Region Interim Political Framework Coordination and Drafting Committee<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, the Mandalay Region Interim Political Framework (Draft)<\/strong> was presented by the Coordination and Drafting Committee. The NUCC side followed up with questions for clarification on unclear points, provided suggestions, analysis, and guidance. The Mandalay committee also raised questions, which were addressed in the discussion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting reportedly featured open, reciprocal, and transparent dialogue<\/strong>, and it concluded successfully<\/strong>, with both parties achieving constructive engagement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 18<\/strong>, Dr. Thein Lwin and Daw Asine from the Thinking Classroom Foundation<\/strong> met with Mee Ein Village-Based Community Education Committee<\/strong> and school leaders and teachers<\/strong> from the Mee Ein educational program to discuss matters related to education.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, the Thinking Classroom Foundation formally recognized the Mee Ein community education committee as a partner organization<\/strong>. They agreed to support the implementation of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC)<\/strong>, RWCT Assessment methods<\/strong>, and RWCT (Reading, Writing, and Critical Thinking) teaching methodologies<\/strong> in the Mee Ein schools.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The International Crisis Group (ICG)<\/strong> has released a report warning that the elections planned by Myanmar\u2019s military junta<\/strong> could lead to increased violence and instability<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the report, an election lacking broad public trust and legitimacy<\/strong> would not offer a solution to Myanmar\u2019s political crisis but would instead deepen domestic political divisions and conflict<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ICG emphasized that the international community<\/strong> should focus on supporting inclusive political processes involving all parties to the conflict<\/strong>, rather than recognizing junta-led elections as part of a legitimate political roadmap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 4. Earthquakes Near Mandalay and Naypyidaw; Some Buildings Damaged in the March 28 Quake Collapse Again<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 18, 2025<\/strong>, earthquakes occurred near Shwebo, Sagaing Region<\/strong> (magnitude 5.4<\/strong> on the Richter scale) and near Naypyidaw<\/strong> (magnitude 4.2<\/strong>), according to a press release from the National Unity Government (NUG)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Around 4:00 PM<\/strong>, a magnitude 5.4 earthquake<\/strong> struck with an epicenter located 34 km east-northeast of Shwebo<\/strong>, at a depth of 35 km<\/strong>, lasting about 10 seconds<\/strong>. The tremor was strongly felt<\/strong> in various areas including Mandalay<\/strong>, Pyin Oo Lwin<\/strong>, Amarapura<\/strong>, Meiktila<\/strong>, Yamethin<\/strong>, Sagaing<\/strong>, and Monywa<\/strong>, according to regional news sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A local woman from Aungmyaythazan Township, Mandalay<\/strong>, recounted:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt started shaking gently, then suddenly became intense and continuous. As I got outside, a ground-floor unit of a nearby unfinished building had collapsed. I didn\u2019t even know which way to run.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A local humanitarian volunteer noted that some buildings previously damaged in the March 28 earthquake collapsed further<\/strong>, although no injuries or casualties<\/strong> have been reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Earlier that same day, at around 1:39 PM Myanmar Standard Time<\/strong>, a magnitude 4.2<\/strong> minor quake struck 39 km north of Naypyidaw<\/strong>, at a shallow depth of 10 km<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, on July 16<\/strong> at 3:28 AM<\/strong>, another aftershock measuring 4.9<\/strong> on the Richter scale struck 4 miles southeast of Pyigyidagun Township, Mandalay<\/strong>, also at a depth of 10 km<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These successive quakes have deepened the psychological stress<\/strong> of locals still traumatized from the March 28 earthquake in Sagaing<\/strong>, and have further highlighted the urgent need for structural safety inspections<\/strong> and disaster preparedness by authorities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Lashio<\/strong>, Shan State<\/strong>, local residents<\/strong> are offering free medical treatment and shelter<\/strong> to war refugees fleeing from Kyaukme and Hsipaw<\/strong>, and also renting out homes at reduced prices<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Social media posts have been circulating, sharing information about the availability of free shelter and medical aid<\/strong> for displaced persons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Currently, a large number of refugees from Hsipaw and Kyaukme<\/strong> have arrived in Lashio<\/strong>, with many staying at the homes of relatives, friends, or acquaintances<\/strong>, it is reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The refugees fled due to airstrikes by the military junta<\/strong> in areas such as Hsipaw, Kyaukme, and Mogok<\/strong>, which are under the control of the Ta\u2019ang National Liberation Army (TNLA)<\/strong>, as the junta advances toward Naungcho<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phyu Phyu<\/strong>, based in Sydney<\/strong>, has reportedly contributed over 308.7 million Myanmar Kyats<\/strong> to support humanitarian efforts across Myanmar.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Breakdown of her contributions includes:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

30 million Kyats<\/strong> for regions affected by the March 27 earthquake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 million Kyats<\/strong> for justice-related humanitarian support<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 million Kyats<\/strong> for rebuilding Dr. Soe Min\u2019s Changyin Clinic<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

20 million Kyats<\/strong> for rehabilitation of wounded Karenni resistance fighters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meritorious acts were performed at a refugee camp in Yaw Township<\/strong> in memory of the late Shwe Nyawa Sayadaw<\/strong>, who passed away on July 10<\/strong>, and the late writer Maung Thachyo<\/strong>, according to Yaw Alinn Tan (Yaw Light Column).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 17<\/strong>, a religious ceremony was held, led by Yaw Mingyi Sayadaw<\/strong>, with laypersons (Daka and Dakama) participating in the dedication of merits<\/strong> to the two deceased individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of the memorial, offerings were made including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Waso robes and daily alms<\/strong> to Sayadaw monks<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lunch meals served to teachers, students, and children<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
