Intense Clashes Between KIA and Military Council Forces in Myitkyina and Waingmaw Townships<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fierce clashes broke out on&nbsp;<strong>July 17<\/strong>&nbsp;between the&nbsp;<strong>Kachin Independence Army (KIA)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Military Council troops<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Myitkyina<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Waingmaw townships<\/strong>, located in Kachin State, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At around&nbsp;<strong>9:00 AM<\/strong>, fighting erupted near&nbsp;<strong>Tan Hpar village<\/strong>, located north of Myitkyina along the upper reaches of the river. It is reported that the military council troops are attempting to reopen the route from Tan Hpar to&nbsp;<strong>Putao<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, in&nbsp;<strong>Waingmaw Township<\/strong>, heavy clashes persisted for about&nbsp;<strong>two hours<\/strong>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>9:00 AM to around 11:00 AM<\/strong>. The Military Council forces conducted intense attacks using&nbsp;<strong>heavy artillery<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>drones<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>airstrikes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is further reported that the Military Council is preparing for a major offensive in Waingmaw Township with around&nbsp;<strong>2,000 troops<\/strong>, aiming to&nbsp;<strong>recapture territories<\/strong>&nbsp;currently controlled by the KIA, including&nbsp;<strong>Panwar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Chiphwe<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Kan Pai Tee<\/strong>&nbsp;areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>2. Military Council Airstrike Targets CDF-Matupi (Brigade 2) Headquarters<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>At around&nbsp;<strong>5:30 PM on July 17<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>headquarters of CDF-Matupi (Brigade 2)<\/strong>&nbsp;was hit by an&nbsp;<strong>airstrike<\/strong>&nbsp;launched by the&nbsp;<strong>Military Council<\/strong>, according to&nbsp;<strong>Matupi Revolution News<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The military junta reportedly dropped a&nbsp;<strong>500-pound bomb<\/strong>&nbsp;during the attack. No injuries to the revolutionary fighters were reported. It is also noted that&nbsp;<strong>this marks the first airstrike<\/strong>&nbsp;carried out against the CDF-Matupi (Brigade 2) headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>3. Civilian Homes and Buildings Damaged by Military Airstrikes in Western Demoso<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 17<\/strong>, at approximately&nbsp;<strong>1:15 PM<\/strong>, the Military Council carried out an airstrike over the&nbsp;<strong>western part of Demoso Township<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Karenni (Kayah) State<\/strong>, dropping&nbsp;<strong>at least 10 bombs<\/strong>, according to reports from&nbsp;<strong>KPV News Agency<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result,&nbsp;<strong>one residential home<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>one building<\/strong>&nbsp;were damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the&nbsp;<strong>first two weeks of July 2025<\/strong>, the Military Council conducted&nbsp;<strong>six aerial attacks<\/strong>&nbsp;on civilian-populated areas in Karenni State, resulting in the deaths of&nbsp;<strong>15 civilians<\/strong>, injuries to&nbsp;<strong>18 others<\/strong>, and damage to&nbsp;<strong>13 buildings<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>4. Military Council Warships Randomly Firing in Eastern Wetlet; Airstrikes Kill Approximately 15 Civilians<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<strong>Wetlet Information Network<\/strong>, a&nbsp;<strong>military warship<\/strong>&nbsp;that departed from&nbsp;<strong>Gaw Wein Port in Mandalay<\/strong>&nbsp;is now indiscriminately shelling&nbsp;<strong>Shainmakar Village<\/strong>&nbsp;in the&nbsp;<strong>eastern part of Wetlet Township<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The flotilla reportedly consists of&nbsp;<strong>5 attack vessels<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>7 support\/transport vessels<\/strong>, currently anchored on the river near the&nbsp;<strong>eastern outskirts of Shainmakar Village<\/strong>, in an area called&nbsp;<strong>Kyauksu Hchar<\/strong>, from where they are&nbsp;<strong>firing Point-5 (0.5-inch caliber) heavy machine guns<\/strong>&nbsp;and scanning the area using&nbsp;<strong>searchlights<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To support the naval operation,&nbsp;<strong>military jets from the Tada-U Air Base<\/strong>&nbsp;flew overhead, escorting the ships along the riverbank. Additionally, a&nbsp;<strong>Y-12 aircraft<\/strong>&nbsp;dropped&nbsp;<strong>bombs on three villages<\/strong>&nbsp;in the eastern part of Wetlet:&nbsp;<strong>Shar Kwel<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Ngapat Chaung<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>Yelay Maw<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The airstrikes reportedly killed approximately&nbsp;<strong>15 civilians<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>injured many others<\/strong>, and also killed&nbsp;<strong>one cow<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>5. PLA Releases Captured Prisoners of War from Police Station Battle in Kantbalu Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Liberation Army (PLA)<\/strong>&nbsp;has announced that it released&nbsp;<strong>four captured prisoners of war (POWs)<\/strong>&nbsp;who had been apprehended during an operation to seize the&nbsp;<strong>police station in the Kantbalu region<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Pale Township, Sagaing Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The four released individuals are:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Private Yay Kyaw Kyaw<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Private Nay Htet Lin<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Police Lieutenant Officer Shane Ko Ko Kyaw<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Private Thun Myay Aye<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>They were released on&nbsp;<strong>July 11<\/strong>, according to PLA sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among them,&nbsp;<strong>Private Nay Htet Lin<\/strong>&nbsp;was reportedly only&nbsp;<strong>15 years old<\/strong>. He had been working as a&nbsp;<strong>barbecue vendor in Yangon<\/strong>&nbsp;when he was&nbsp;<strong>forcibly conscripted<\/strong>&nbsp;into the military through coercion and deception.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to these four, another soldier named&nbsp;<strong>Soe Ta<\/strong>, who had also been captured during the same battle,&nbsp;<strong>died in custody due to illness<\/strong>, the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PLA emphasized that it had treated the POWs&nbsp;<strong>with dignity and respect for human rights and military ethics<\/strong>&nbsp;while in custody. Those who were injured received&nbsp;<strong>medical treatment and proper care<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PLA further stated that these prisoners were held and later released&nbsp;<strong>in accordance with the prisoner-of-war policy of the Communist Party of Burma<\/strong>, and urged junta soldiers to&nbsp;<strong>lay down their arms rather than die serving the regime\u2019s interests<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>6. 109 Military Council Soldiers, Police, and Militia Surrender or Are Captured in the First Week of July<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the program&nbsp;<strong>\u201cPyay Hta Project: This Week,\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;a total of&nbsp;<strong>109 individuals<\/strong>&nbsp;\u2014 including soldiers, police officers, and members of the pro-junta militia (People\u2019s Militias) \u2014 either&nbsp;<strong>surrendered, laid down their arms, or were captured as prisoners of war<\/strong>&nbsp;during the&nbsp;<strong>first week of July 2025<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Based on records compiled by the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Goal (Pyithu Pantaing)<\/strong>&nbsp;monitoring group:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>31 junta soldiers<\/strong>,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>3 police officers<\/strong>, and<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>17 militia members<\/strong><br><strong>surrendered or defected<\/strong>\u00a0during the first week of July.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the 31 surrendered soldiers,&nbsp;<strong>22 were forcibly conscripted<\/strong>&nbsp;under the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Military Service Law<\/strong>, meaning they were new recruits who had been&nbsp;<strong>illegally conscripted<\/strong>&nbsp;by the junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition,&nbsp;<strong>58 junta soldiers<\/strong>&nbsp;were captured as&nbsp;<strong>prisoners of war<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Karen State and Mandalay Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Altogether, from&nbsp;<strong>January to the first week of July 2025<\/strong>, the total number of defections, disarmaments, and POWs from junta forces has reached&nbsp;<strong>1,601 individuals<\/strong>, according to the People\u2019s Goal records.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udea9\ud83d\udea9&nbsp;<strong>7.
