Junta Airstrikes Resistance Camps on Myanmar\u2013Thailand Border to Prevent Loss of Remaining Bases<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Myanmar military launched airstrikes using fighter jets in an effort to prevent resistance forces from seizing its remaining bases along the Myanmar\u2013Thailand border, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 16<\/strong>, around&nbsp;<strong>6:05 PM and 6:20 PM Thailand time<\/strong>, Russian-made&nbsp;<strong>YAK-130 fighter jets<\/strong>&nbsp;dropped&nbsp;<strong>two bombs<\/strong>&nbsp;on areas suspected to be occupied by resistance forces, reported Addy Chaiyadech, who monitors military activity at the border, along with video evidence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 12<\/strong>, a joint force of the&nbsp;<strong>Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>People&#8217;s Defense Force (PDF)<\/strong>&nbsp;successfully captured the junta\u2019s stronghold at&nbsp;<strong>Ukrit Camp<\/strong>. Resistance Forces Repel Major Junta Offensive near Sittaung River; ~40 Soldiers Including 4 Officers Killed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The People&#8217;s Defense Forces based in&nbsp;<strong>Naypyidaw<\/strong>&nbsp;successfully repelled a junta column that had launched an overwhelming offensive against resistance groups on the&nbsp;<strong>eastern bank of the Sittaung River<\/strong>, resulting in the death of around&nbsp;<strong>40 junta troops<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>4 military officers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This was announced today,&nbsp;<strong>July 17<\/strong>, by the&nbsp;<strong>Naypyidaw Regional Command<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Defense Army (PDA)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The counteroffensive took place in&nbsp;<strong>Operation Area 2<\/strong>, spanning the&nbsp;<strong>Sittaung River basin to Yetashay<\/strong>, as part of a broader campaign by the Naypyidaw resistance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The junta troops, reinforced from the&nbsp;<strong>western bank of the Sittaung River<\/strong>, had crossed the&nbsp;<strong>Karen Chaung Bridge \u2013 Kywe Yine Pyin<\/strong>&nbsp;area to launch attacks with overwhelming force on the resistance-held eastern bank. This triggered an intense&nbsp;<strong>4-hour battle<\/strong>, followed by&nbsp;<strong>smaller skirmishes throughout the day<\/strong>, the statement said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In total, about&nbsp;<strong>40 junta troops were killed<\/strong>, including&nbsp;<strong>four officers<\/strong>, and around&nbsp;<strong>20 others were wounded<\/strong>. Artillery Strike by Junta Forces Kills 4, Including Police Officer, in Yesagyo<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An artillery strike by&nbsp;<strong>Light Infantry Battalion 258<\/strong>&nbsp;of the junta forces stationed in&nbsp;<strong>Yesagyo Township, Magway Region<\/strong>, killed&nbsp;<strong>four people<\/strong>, including a member of the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Security Force (Pa-Ka-Fa)<\/strong>, according to a statement released today by the local PDF unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the night of&nbsp;<strong>July 15<\/strong>, at around&nbsp;<strong>10:00 PM<\/strong>, junta troops from LIB 258 shelled&nbsp;<strong>Kan Bae Village<\/strong>&nbsp;using&nbsp;<strong>two 80mm artillery shells<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One shell reportedly struck a civilian home in the village, causing an explosion and fire. When PDF security members rushed in to extinguish the flames, another&nbsp;<strong>80mm shell<\/strong>&nbsp;was fired, resulting in multiple casualties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Among the dead were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Ko Kaung Gyi (a.k.a Maung Yan Naing)<\/strong>, aged 20, a member of Yesagyo Pa-Ka-Fa<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His wife,&nbsp;<strong>Ma Thazin Wai<\/strong>, aged 24<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong>32-year-old CDM (civil disobedience movement) school teacher<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Ma Nwe Oo May<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong>17-year-old youth<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Maung Shin Lin Ko<\/strong>, from Kan Bae Village<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Four other civilians in the village sustained&nbsp;<strong>non-life-threatening injuries<\/strong>, the statement added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The local PDF unit held a&nbsp;<strong>military funeral ceremony<\/strong>&nbsp;for Ko Kaung Gyi and his wife. Clashes Erupt Between Junta Naval Vessels and Local Defense Forces on Chindwin River<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 17<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clashes broke out between junta navy vessels advancing aggressively along the&nbsp;<strong>Chindwin River<\/strong>&nbsp;and local defense forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the&nbsp;<strong>Mahura Tiger People&#8217;s Defense Force (PDF)<\/strong>&nbsp;based in&nbsp;<strong>Kani Township<\/strong>, fighting occurred on the evening of&nbsp;<strong>July 16<\/strong>&nbsp;between junta military boats and local defense units as the navy vessels moved upstream along the Chindwin River.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Previously, on&nbsp;<strong>July 15<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>26 junta navy vessels<\/strong>, which had docked overnight near&nbsp;<strong>Chin Ywa Village<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Tharyarpin Village Tract<\/strong>&nbsp;of Kani Township, were seen moving upstream past the&nbsp;<strong>Kani military base<\/strong>, heading toward&nbsp;<strong>Maedain and Saphoke Gyi areas<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>These junta forces reportedly fired both&nbsp;<strong>heavy and light weapons<\/strong>&nbsp;at riverside areas as they advanced.
