While close-range clashes were ongoing in Hpakant<\/strong>, Kachin State, between junta troops and the joint forces of Kachin Independence Army (KIA)<\/strong> and Kachin People\u2019s Defense Force (KPDF)<\/strong>, a junta fighter jet mistakenly bombed its own ground troops and also opened fire using machine guns, according to People Spring<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred around 11:40 AM<\/strong> on July 15<\/strong>, near the monastery compound of Mawmaunglyan village<\/strong>, where junta aircraft conducted an airstrike. Reports indicate that the bombing mistakenly hit their own side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eyewitnesses stated that in addition to dropping bombs, the aircraft strafed the area three times<\/strong> with machine gun fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The junta is reportedly launching an offensive in the area to regain control of Mawmaung Hill<\/strong> and Lamaung Hill<\/strong>, which are considered strategically vital in the Hpakant theater. In response, KIA and KPDF are launching interception assaults from Mawmaunglyan<\/strong>, Mawwanlay<\/strong>, and A Phote Phon<\/strong> villages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heavy junta casualties were reported during the ground fighting, and it was also confirmed that on July 13 at 5:35 PM<\/strong>, junta aircraft had previously bombed A Phote Phon<\/strong> and Mawmaung Hill<\/strong> areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A reinforcement column from the junta heading toward Nat Ein Taung camp<\/strong> in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region<\/strong>, along the Thai\u2013Myanmar border<\/strong>, was ambushed, resulting in the deaths of four junta soldiers<\/strong>, including the unit commander, according to a statement from the KNU Myeik\u2013Tavoy District<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 14 and 15<\/strong>, joint forces comprising KNLA Brigade 4<\/strong>, Brigade 6<\/strong>, and Special Task Force 2<\/strong> ambushed the advancing junta column composed of five battalions from Kalein Aung Military Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the engagement, Major Aung Ko Hein<\/strong>, the commander of one of the units, was among those killed. Four junta soldiers were captured alive<\/strong>, and various weapons and ammunition<\/strong> were seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

One of the captured soldiers was reportedly wounded during the battle<\/strong>, and junta troops illegally recovered his weapon<\/strong> and abandoned him at the battlefield with injuries<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wounded soldier was quoted saying to remaining junta members:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThey [the junta] don\u2019t value our lives. I experienced it firsthand. Don\u2019t expect them to come back for you if you’re injured\u2014they won\u2019t evacuate or treat you. They’ll leave you behind like they did to me. The best choice is to defect to the revolutionary forces and the people\u2019s side whenever the opportunity arises.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The wounded soldier was later carried for miles by KNLA and allied troops<\/strong>, who provided medical care in accordance with humanitarian principles and the laws of armed conflict<\/strong>, and is currently under their custody, receiving treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Ward 71 of South Dagon Township, Yangon Region<\/strong>, local resistance network Myopat Kyet (Urban Guerrilla Network)<\/strong> announced that it had carried out a handmade bomb attack<\/strong> targeting the ward administrator and affiliated Pyu Saw Htee pro-junta militia members<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack occurred at around 10 PM on July 14<\/strong>, when underground guerrilla fighters within the Myopat Kyet network launched homemade explosive devices, reportedly inflicting serious injuries on three Pyu Saw Htee members<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, two motorcycles<\/strong> used by the militia were also destroyed by fire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Urban Guerrilla Network stated that it strongly condemns<\/strong> the junta’s illegal elections<\/strong> and its practice of forcibly conscripting civilians to use as human shields on the frontlines<\/strong>. It also warned that enemy forces will be targeted and eliminated at any time<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 14<\/strong>, revolutionary forces launched a territorial clearance operation targeting an outpost set up by the Shanni Nationalities Army (SNA)<\/strong> near Myitthaykyin village<\/strong>, Banmauk Township<\/strong>, Katha District<\/strong>, where the SNA had entrenched itself in an effort to expand its territorial control. This was stated in a press release by Katha District Battalion No. (4) (K-4)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the assault, at least three enemy soldiers<\/strong> were reportedly killed, and one G3 rifle<\/strong> was seized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The clash took place as part of a counter-offensive campaign along the Sittaung River Basin<\/strong>, which began on June 26<\/strong>, when joint forces of the KNLA<\/strong> and PDF<\/strong> launched attacks on junta camps in Kyaukkyi Township<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On July 10<\/strong>, following the battle, a junta soldier who had been left behind and trapped during the fighting was captured along with his weapon<\/strong> during area security operations, the report said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 12:50 PM on July 15<\/strong>, a junta jet fighter dropped two 250-pound bombs<\/strong>, targeting the bridge area. The explosion caused partial structural damage to Manping Bridge<\/strong>, the report confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In their testimony, they revealed that the military conscription law<\/strong> is being used by the junta to forcibly recruit young people across the country, who are then sent to frontlines and compelled to participate in military operations against their will<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement also noted that junta forces are suffering defeats nationwide, losing numerous bases, and facing increasing rates of defection and desertion. Many soldiers are demoralized due to harsh treatment and oppression by their commanding officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

They stated that their defection was prompted by rampant drug use<\/strong> within the army, training sessions that encouraged looting of civilian property<\/strong>, and orders that sanctioned sexual violence against civilians<\/strong>\u2014practices they could no longer tolerate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although they had initially brought weapons with them, the two explained that they had to abandon them in the forest<\/strong> due to the difficulty of the journey.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
