Fierce Clashes in Hpakant: Two Civilians Killed, Houses Set Ablaze<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 13<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Fierce clashes erupted in&nbsp;<strong>Hpakant Township<\/strong>, Kachin State, on the night of&nbsp;<strong>July 12<\/strong>, during which&nbsp;<strong>artillery shells fired by junta forces<\/strong>&nbsp;struck civilian homes, setting them ablaze. Two men caught in the crossfire were killed, according to&nbsp;<em>People Spring<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The fighting occurred in the evening of&nbsp;<strong>July 12<\/strong>, near&nbsp;<strong>Ahmoakpon Village<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Mashikahtaung Ward<\/strong>, and along the road leading to&nbsp;<strong>Seikmu Village<\/strong>, specifically in front of the&nbsp;<strong>Shwe Myanmar petrol station<\/strong>, where a confrontation broke out between junta forces and joint forces from the&nbsp;<strong>Kachin Independence Army (KIA)<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Kachin People\u2019s Defense Force (KPDF)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of the deceased was&nbsp;<strong>Ko Min Soe<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>former village head of Ahmoakpon<\/strong>, who had accompanied the junta troops. His body was reportedly&nbsp;<strong>pushed off a vehicle<\/strong>&nbsp;by junta soldiers as they fled the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The second casualty was identified as&nbsp;<strong>U Bran Moon<\/strong>, a civilian who had been driving back when he was caught in the crossfire and fatally struck by gunfire.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, on the morning of&nbsp;<strong>July 13<\/strong>, the junta conducted a&nbsp;<strong>drone bombing attack<\/strong>&nbsp;on the dormitory of the&nbsp;<strong>Kachin National Development and Mining Company<\/strong>&nbsp;near&nbsp;<strong>Taungpyo Village<\/strong>, injuring&nbsp;<strong>six staff members<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ahmoakpon Village was originally under the control of KIA and KPDF forces until junta troops entered the area at the end of June. Deputy Platoon Commander of Karenni Multi-Ethnic People\u2019s Liberation Army (KPLA) Killed in Action<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 13<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A&nbsp;<strong>Deputy Platoon Commander<\/strong>&nbsp;from&nbsp;<strong>Battalion 9424, Strategic Region 2<\/strong>&nbsp;of the&nbsp;<strong>Karenni Multi-Ethnic People\u2019s Liberation Army (KPLA)<\/strong>&nbsp;was killed in the line of duty, according to an official statement released by the battalion.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The report states that on&nbsp;<strong>July 10<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Comrade Paulu<\/strong>, Deputy Platoon Commander of KPLA Battalion 9424, died while serving his duties in defense of his country and ethnic people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His death was described as a&nbsp;<strong>significant loss<\/strong>&nbsp;for the battalion. Junta Soldier from Naypyidaw\u2019s Military Signals Battalion Defects to Pa Ka Pha in Wetlet Township<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 13<\/strong><br><strong>Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A soldier from&nbsp;<strong>Military Signals Battalion No. 2 (ASAR-2)<\/strong>&nbsp;based in&nbsp;<strong>Naypyidaw Council Territory<\/strong>&nbsp;has defected to the&nbsp;<strong>People\u2019s Defense Team (Pa Ka Pha)<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Wetlet Township<\/strong>, according to a statement released by the Wetlet Pa Ka Pha.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The defecting soldier, identified as&nbsp;<strong>Moe Kaung<\/strong>, fled together with his family and made contact with the&nbsp;<strong>Wetlet Pa Ka Pha<\/strong>, seeking refuge among the people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Pa Ka Pha confirmed that Moe Kaung and his family were&nbsp;<strong>received, verified, and are being kept safe and protected in accordance with human rights standards<\/strong>.
