Meeting Between the Ministry of Human Rights and Human Rights Officers from Bago, Magway, and Mandalay Regions<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Human Rights under the National Unity Government (NUG) issued a statement confirming that meetings with human rights officers from Bago, Magway, and Mandalay Regions were held on July 5 and 7.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the meetings, participants revisited the implementation of decisions from previous discussions and reviewed complaints and documented human rights violations collected by the Ministry. These cases were thoroughly examined and clarified. At the same time, the human rights officers provided updates on ground situations and specific needs within their respective townships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>There are currently 101 human rights officers appointed across Sagaing, Magway, Bago, Tanintharyi, and Mandalay Regions, and 12 rounds of meetings have been held with officers from three of these regions so far.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Union Minister for Human Rights U Aung Myo Min stated during the meeting that such engagements provide valuable opportunities to address urgent needs and difficulties faced on the ground. He emphasized that the Ministry\u2019s success is made possible by the relentless efforts of human rights officers, underlining the importance of valuing their contributions. He further stressed that the Ministry is prioritizing the officers\u2019 needs and security-related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>2. Justice Must Be Served for Victims of Organizational Misconduct, Says Minister of Justice<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Ministry of Justice of the National Unity Government held a&nbsp;<strong>Basic Introduction Training on Transitional Justice<\/strong>&nbsp;from June 27 to 30, 2025. Union Minister for Justice U Thein Oo highlighted the importance of serving justice for individuals who have suffered due to the actions of certain individuals or organizations. He asserted that the suffering of victims from the past must not be forgotten.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister explained that transitional justice is not merely about punishing perpetrators through legal means but also about ensuring&nbsp;<strong>social justice<\/strong>&nbsp;for the victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The objectives of the training were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>(a) To provide broader and deeper understanding of transitional justice mechanisms and processes while working on fundamental human rights, federal democracy, and rule of law efforts in Karenni State;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(b) To enable local communities in Karenni State to develop transitional justice processes that are in line with their local context, historical background, and political trajectory toward federal democracy through\u00a0<strong>local ownership<\/strong>;<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>(c) To support the construction of transitional justice during this transformation period by exploring effective approaches.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The Minister also reiterated the&nbsp;<strong>four core rights<\/strong>&nbsp;for victims recognized by the United Nations:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Right to Truth<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 the right to know about past violations and sufferings,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Right to Justice<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 prosecution of perpetrators,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Right to Reparation<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 compensation and rehabilitation for victims,<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Right to Non-Recurrence<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 guarantees against future violations.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p>He further explained that the&nbsp;<strong>victim-focused<\/strong>&nbsp;approach should consider the fact that victims currently exist across the country and that transitional justice cannot be conducted in a single place alone. He warned that unilateral implementation of TJ could harm the&nbsp;<strong>national reconciliation<\/strong>&nbsp;process, hence the need for&nbsp;<strong>local ownership<\/strong>&nbsp;within each relevant area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, Karenni State\u2019s Minister for Justice, U Thaw Re S Kel, shared during the training that preparations are underway to draft a transitional governance framework for Karenni State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The training was organized by the Ministry of Justice of the National Unity Government in collaboration with the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Rule of Law and Transitional Justice<\/strong>, the&nbsp;<strong>Karenni State Government\u2019s Ministry of Justice (KMOJ)<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Karenni State Interim Judiciary (KSIJ)<\/strong>, and the&nbsp;<strong>Department of Justice (DOJ)<\/strong>. Approximately&nbsp;<strong>50 participants<\/strong>&nbsp;joined, including judges, legal officers, police officers, relevant civil servants from Karenni State\u2019s justice sector, and representatives from civil society organizations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>3. \u201cUphold the Spirit of July Seventh, Topple Dictatorship with the Peacock Flag\u201d: Anti-Junta Protest and Public Awareness Events Held to Mark 63rd Anniversary of the 7 July Student Uprising<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 7, a public protest against the military dictatorship was held in&nbsp;<strong>Launglon Township<\/strong>, Dawei District, organized by the&nbsp;<strong>Basic Education Students&#8217; Union<\/strong>&nbsp;to commemorate the&nbsp;<strong>63rd Anniversary of the July 7 Student Uprising<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest was held under the theme:&nbsp;<em>\u201cUphold the Spirit of July Seventh, Topple the Dictatorship with the Peacock Flag\u201d<\/em>, in honor of the fallen student heroes who participated in the original uprising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest included a march denouncing military dictatorship and commemorative acts such as offering flower wreaths to honor the fallen, reciting poems against tyranny, and remembering those who sacrificed their lives in successive generations of the democracy movement, including the July 7 Uprising.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Similarly, the&nbsp;<strong>Burmese Liberation Democratic Force (BLDF)<\/strong>, in collaboration with the Monywa-Amyint Road Strike Steering Committee, organized a talk on July 7 in a location within&nbsp;<strong>Monywa Township<\/strong>&nbsp;under the theme&nbsp;<em>\u201c7.7.62 \u2013 Never Forget\u201d<\/em>, which was attended by parents, teachers, and students.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Additionally, a&nbsp;<strong>public awareness session<\/strong>&nbsp;was held to educate participants on safety protocols and protective measures to take during airstrikes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The date&nbsp;<strong>July 7<\/strong>&nbsp;remains a historically significant and emotionally painful day in Myanmar\u2019s struggle against military dictatorship and for democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>4. Homes of Junta Member Daw Dwe Bu and KSPP Chair Dr. Tu Jar Attacked with Grenades in Myitkyina<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On&nbsp;<strong>July 7<\/strong>, around&nbsp;<strong>3:00 PM<\/strong>, the residence of&nbsp;<strong>Daw Dwe Bu<\/strong>, a member of the military council, located in&nbsp;<strong>Sitapu Ward (Naung Yar)<\/strong>&nbsp;of&nbsp;<strong>Myitkyina<\/strong>, Kachin State, was attacked with a hand grenade. The explosion occurred on a tamarind tree near her house.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Shortly afterward, around&nbsp;<strong>3:30 PM<\/strong>, the home of&nbsp;<strong>Dr. Tu Jar<\/strong>, Chair of the&nbsp;<strong>Kachin State People\u2019s Party (KSPP)<\/strong>, located near the&nbsp;<strong>Yuzana Ward Catholic Church<\/strong>, was also targeted with a grenade attack.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>No casualties were reported in either incident.
