Committee Urges Resistance Against Military’s Sham Election and Peace Process

July 5

The Joint Committee for the Anti-Fake Election Movement has called on the public to oppose the military junta’s planned sham election and its deceptive peace process.

The committee, jointly formed by the National Unity Consultative Council (NUCC) and the National Unity Government (NUG), reaffirmed its stance that the results of the 2020 general election remain the only legitimate political mandate.

The committee asserted that holding an illegitimate election without the consent of elected representatives and the people constitutes a violation of democratic principles and an unlawful attempt to usurp the people’s sovereign power.

In line with this core principle, the committee issued an appeal urging revolutionary forces to stand in united opposition to the junta’s fraudulent election and disingenuous peace efforts, which are designed to prolong the dictatorship’s grip on power.

The statement emphasized that the junta’s so-called peace dialogues and meetings are not genuine efforts but merely tactics to ensure its survival and continued control. It called on all revolutionary stakeholders to refrain from participating in or supporting such deceptive initiatives, and instead respond firmly and collectively with a clear stance of rejection.

It further urged revolutionary forces, particularly in ethnic and resistance-controlled areas, to collaborate with local communities to prevent the junta from organizing any elections in these territories. The committee encouraged official declarations that such sham elections will not be permitted under any circumstances.

Finally, the Joint Committee for the Anti-Fake Election Movement rallied all forces to remain united in the revolutionary mission—to fully dismantle the military dictatorship and establish a new Federal Democratic Union—pledging to continue the march forward until these collective goals are achieved.

========================

📌📌 2. Junta Cannot Bring Peace, Says KNU Chairman, Citing Their Focus on Power and Self-Interest

July 5

Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win, Chairman of the Karen National Union (KNU), declared that the military junta cannot lead a genuine peace process because it is an armed group solely concerned with maintaining its power and protecting the interests of its affiliates.

The Chairman made this statement in a commemorative message for the 76th anniversary of Karen National Armed Forces Day (Ka Thu Lei Armed Forces Day), observed on July 5.

He emphasized that the junta’s reliance on oppressive rule and its refusal to relinquish power rule out the possibility of bringing peace to the country or contributing to national development.

The Chairman urged that various forms of resistance must be employed to end the dictatorship and its authoritarian rule.

He also noted that the military regime, having unlawfully seized power, is weaponizing racial and religious divisions to prolong its control. The junta is reportedly adopting new military strategies, utilizing modern weapons, and implementing diplomatic and political tactics to reinforce its power.

In light of this, he called for all resistance groups—ethnic armed organizations, political alliances, and grassroots networks currently resisting the junta’s tyranny—to unite in their efforts to dismantle the dictatorship and restore justice, peace, and progress in the country.

Lieutenant General Saw Bo Kyaw Heh, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), also addressed the troops, officers, and the public. He emphasized the need for personal sacrifice so that future generations may live in peace.

He explained that the Karen movement had pursued peaceful solutions repeatedly in the past. However, it ultimately had to resort to armed resistance to reclaim the rights of the people and establish their military force.

“We have already sacrificed many lives and limbs. Those of us who are still alive and whole must now stand united and work hand in hand to fulfill the goals for which our comrades gave everything,” he said.

Lieutenant General Saw Bo Kyaw Heh added that cooperation with other ethnic groups is growing stronger, and hopes are becoming more visible. The Ka Thu Lei Armed Forces are not working alone but are collaborating with other ethnic groups—including Bamar and Mon—to advance the collective struggle.

========================

📌📌 3. Junta Uses Divisive Rhetoric Against CRPH, NUG, and PDF; Threatens Families of PDF Members

July 5

The military junta has begun using divisive language targeting the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), the National Unity Government (NUG), and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), warning that those who continue to participate in the armed resistance will put their parents, siblings, and relatives in danger.

This warning was included in a statement released by the junta, in which it also invited PDF members to surrender and collaborate.

In the announcement, the junta claimed that due to PDFs being involved in armed resistance across the country, not only the parents and siblings but also the livelihoods and social well-being of extended family members are being harmed.

Previously, the junta had referred to the PDFs as “terrorists posing as PDFs.” However, in this latest statement, it has shifted to calling them “those bearing the PDF title,” indicating a softening of tone.

Analysts note that this shift suggests the junta is effectively issuing a plea—like a letter of apology—urging PDFs to lay down their arms and cooperate.

Observers point out that this change in language reflects a tactical retreat, as the junta is now under pressure from increasingly effective ambushes and attacks by the PDFs, particularly against its military columns. Consequently, it is no longer in a position to label them outright as “terrorists.”

========================

📌📌 4. Meanwhile, the junta is intentionally launching aerial attacks against civilians across the country,” she said.

Recent reports indicate ongoing clashes between SAC forces and the TNLA near 12 villages around Taung Kham and Naung Cho areas.

Lway Yay Oo further noted that although SAC lobbyists are spreading propaganda, the military council has not yet been able to fully regain control of Naung Cho. Fighting continues in the area.

More than 80 clashes have occurred between the TNLA and the military council in Naung Cho Township alone.
