Military Junta Opposes Timor-Leste\u2019s ASEAN Membership Bid<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 2 | Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to a report by&nbsp;<em>Thai PBS World<\/em>, Myanmar\u2019s military junta has sent an official letter to Malaysia, the current chair of ASEAN, expressing its opposition to Timor-Leste\u2019s bid to become a full member of the regional bloc in October.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the official statement issued from Naypyidaw, the junta accused Timor-Leste of violating ASEAN\u2019s principle of non-interference in internal affairs, as outlined in the ASEAN Charter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The letter, signed by Htun Win Aung, Director-General of the ASEAN-Myanmar Coordination Department, warned that Timor-Leste\u2019s continued involvement in Myanmar\u2019s internal affairs would result in its membership application being \u201centirely rejected.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although ASEAN leaders had previously agreed in May to accept Timor-Leste as the 11th member of ASEAN, with necessary procedural steps scheduled for October, the junta has now called on the ASEAN Chair and Secretary-General\u2019s Office to suspend further steps until Timor-Leste revises its stance and provides clear assurances regarding non-interference in Myanmar&#8217;s internal matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>3. Ministry of Human Rights Engages in Dialogue with Equality Myanmar (EQMM), a Civil Society Organization<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 2 | Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On July 1, the Ministry of Human Rights released a statement announcing that it had held a meeting with Equality Myanmar (EQMM), a civil society organization involved in human rights education and the documentation of human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The meeting was attended by a total of 54 participants, including officials from the Ministry of Human Rights, human rights officers from Sagaing and Magway Regions, and representatives from EQMM.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>During the discussion, participants reviewed EQMM\u2019s current activities, the on-the-ground status of human rights documentation efforts, and explored possibilities for continued collaboration between EQMM and government human rights officers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was reported that the meeting included reciprocal discussions and inquiries, particularly on practical, field-level cooperation opportunities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As a result of the meeting, both the Ministry&#8217;s human rights officials and EQMM agreed to establish reciprocal cooperation in areas such as human rights training and information-sharing on human rights violations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>4. Political Prisoners Beaten and Shackled for Reciting Poetry in Honor of Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s Birthday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 2 | Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The All Burma Political Prisoners Network (PPNM) has reported that political prisoners were beaten, shackled, and subjected to punitive confinement for reciting poetry in honor of the birthday of State Counsellor Daw Aung San Suu Kyi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On June 19, political prisoners at Myingyan Prison commemorated Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th birthday by reading poems as a tribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In response, prison authorities at Myingyan allegedly assaulted the inmates, shackled them by their ankles, and placed them in solitary confinement, denying them medical treatment for their injuries. Furthermore, the prisoners were also subjected to restrictions on family visits and the receipt of care packages.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The PPNM stated that such actions by prison staff\u2014violating human rights simply for reciting poetry\u2014will be addressed through appropriate channels to ensure justice is served when human rights are restored in the country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>5. In 2025, Military Junta\u2019s Actions Resulted in the Deaths of 139 Children Under Age 18, Including an Infant Only Three Months Old<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to data compiled by the Association for the Assistance of Political Prisoners (AAPP), between January 1 and July 2, 2025, a total of 139 children under the age of 18 were confirmed killed due to actions by the military junta across Myanmar. Among the victims were 74 girls and 65 boys, including a boy as young as three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Sagaing Region recorded the highest number of child fatalities, with 49 deaths, followed by Magway Region with 22.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The leading cause of death\u2014accounting for 115 out of the 139 cases\u2014was airstrikes carried out by the military junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition, during the same period, the junta arrested two children under the age of 18 in connection with the Spring Revolution: a 15-year-old boy and a 6-year-old girl.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc&nbsp;<strong>6. Arakkha Public Health Department Conducts Field Operation to Prevent Avian Flu in Minbya<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>July 2 | Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to APM News Agency, the Arakkha Public Health Department launched a field operation in Minbya Township during the final week of June to prevent the spread of avian influenza.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In the village of Sa Ein (Old Village), under the leadership of the Arakkha Public Health Department and with the cooperation of the Avian Flu Control Unit, inspections were carried out to detect avian flu infections.
