Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th Birthday Marks a Day to Amplify the People\u2019s Desire for Liberation, Says Prime Minister<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 19<\/strong><br><em>Radio NUG<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the occasion of Myanmar democracy leader Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th birthday, the National League for Democracy (NLD) Central Executive Committee held a commemorative event, during which Prime Minister Mann Win Khaing Than sent a message of tribute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In his message, the Prime Minister emphasized that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s birthday is no ordinary occasion, but a powerful moment that reveals to the world the people\u2019s strong and unwavering desire for the release of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and all political prisoners.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He stated that people from across Myanmar and around the globe had marked her birthday with tributes, expressing their respect and unwavering support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born on June 19, 1945, as the daughter of independence hero General Aung San, Daw Aung San Suu Kyi rose to prominence as a central leader of Myanmar\u2019s democracy movement following the 1988 uprising. Throughout the decades, she faced brutal repression and threats to her life under military regimes, yet stood steadfast alongside the people in their pursuit of democracy. Her leadership earned overwhelming public support in the 1990, 2012, 2015, and 2020 elections and has been enshrined in the nation\u2019s political history as a distinguished leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Although she remains unjustly imprisoned by the military junta, the Prime Minister wrote that her unwavering bond with the people continues to breathe strength into the Spring Revolution. Airbus Divests from Chinese Firm AviChina Supplying Military Aircraft to Myanmar Junta<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 19<\/strong><br><em>Radio NUG<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>European aerospace giant&nbsp;<strong>Airbus<\/strong>&nbsp;has announced the&nbsp;<strong>complete divestment of all its shares<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>AVI China Industry &amp; Technology Company Limited (AviChina)<\/strong>\u2014a Chinese weapons manufacturer known to have supplied&nbsp;<strong>Y-12 transport aircraft and K-8 light attack trainer jets<\/strong>&nbsp;to the Myanmar military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This decision was welcomed by Myanmar-focused activist groups including&nbsp;<strong>Justice For Myanmar<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Info Birmanie<\/strong>, and the&nbsp;<strong>Blood Money Campaign<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In a report released in&nbsp;<strong>September 2024<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Justice For Myanmar<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>Info Birmanie<\/strong>&nbsp;revealed that Airbus held a&nbsp;<strong>5.03% stake in AviChina<\/strong>, making it the largest foreign shareholder in the company. As of June 30, 2024, the value of Airbus\u2019s investment was reported to be&nbsp;<strong>USD 140 million<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Airbus\u2019s divestment came in response to sustained pressure from civil society organizations, protest groups, trade unions, and human rights activists around the world. These groups had urged Airbus to sever its financial ties with&nbsp;<strong>AviChina<\/strong>, a subsidiary of the&nbsp;<strong>Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AVIC)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>AviChina<\/strong>&nbsp;has been identified as a key supplier of military hardware to Myanmar\u2019s junta, including&nbsp;<strong>K-8 fighter-trainer jets<\/strong>,&nbsp;<strong>Y-12 multipurpose aircraft<\/strong>, associated equipment, and technology.
