NLD Issues a Message of Loving Appeal to All Myanmar Citizens to Commemorate Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th Birthday<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>June 10<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To mark Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th birthday, the National League for Democracy (NLD) has released a heartfelt message urging all Myanmar nationals to join in commemorative efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement recalls that Daw Aung San Suu Kyi has dedicated herself to the cause of establishing a federal union in Myanmar that guarantees full democracy and human rights. For her political commitment, she endured repeated unlawful detentions under successive military dictatorships\u2014spending&nbsp;<strong>15 years and 4 months<\/strong>&nbsp;under house arrest from&nbsp;<strong>July 20, 1989<\/strong>&nbsp;to&nbsp;<strong>November 13, 2010<\/strong>. She also survived multiple assassination attempts, including the infamous Depayin incident.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The statement condemns military strongman&nbsp;<strong>Min Aung Hlaing<\/strong>, describing him as a violent authoritarian who unlawfully seized power in pursuit of self-interest and continues to unjustly detain Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, the rightful leader of the election-winning party. As of today, she has been held in unlawful detention for&nbsp;<strong>exactly 1,590 days<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As her unjust imprisonment is deemed one of the most crucial issues for the country\u2019s future, the NLD respectfully urges all those who love and revere Daw Aung San Suu Kyi to participate in two commemorative actions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>On June 19, 2025, at exactly 8:00 a.m.<\/strong>, on the occasion of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi\u2019s 80th birthday, citizens are encouraged to observe\u00a0<strong>eight minutes<\/strong>\u00a0of silent prayer and send loving-kindness messages for her release\u2014and for the release of all political prisoners\u2014according to their respective religious or spiritual traditions, from their homes or wherever they may be.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Everyone, including NLD members, supporters, and Myanmar nationals both inside and outside the country, is invited to take part in the\u00a0<strong>\u201cHappy Birthday SUU\u201d Video Challenge<\/strong>, led by her son\u00a0<strong>Mr. Kim (a.k.a.
