The Union Special Natural Resources Committee operating in Banmauk Township was arrested on the evening of June 3 by the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG) for alleged misconduct and abuse of authority, according to reliable sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The arrest resulted in the seizure of several gold nuggets, over 160 million kyat in cash, and a cache of firearms and ammunition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The said committee was originally formed in March by the NUG Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Conservation to manage the natural resources extracted from Banmauk Township. It was structured under the Union-level Natural Resources Management Committee, with township-, district-, and regional-level branches established to ensure effective coordination between the Union and subnational levels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to U Nay Phone Latt, spokesperson for the NUG Prime Minister\u2019s Office, the arrest was made to facilitate questioning and investigation based on formal complaints. He further stated that since the police forces faced difficulties in executing the arrest, the Ministry of Defense conducted the operation in coordination with relevant stakeholders.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union Minister Dr. Sasa of the NUG Ministry of International Cooperation attended a launch event in the UK Parliament for the newly released report titled “Unspeakable Tragedy”<\/em>, which documents grave atrocities committed by the Myanmar military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 39-page report details the Myanmar military\u2019s escalating brutality since the 2021 coup, including acts that constitute war crimes and crimes against humanity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The event was co-attended by Benedict Rogers, Senior Director at Fortify Rights, along with Dr. Sasa. UK Parliamentarians Tim Loughton MP and Baroness Fiona Hodgson, as well as Karen ethnic activist Zoya Phan, also participated in the event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition, on June 5, Dr. Sasa and Benedict Rogers held a series of high-level meetings at the UK Parliament with Sir Iain Duncan Smith, Baroness Natalie Bennett, and members of the UK Parliament\u2019s International Development Committee \u2014 including Chair Sarah Champion MP, Monica Harding MP, and Brian Mathew MP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

These meetings focused on Myanmar\u2019s current political crisis and the urgent need for coordinated international action to end the Myanmar military\u2019s impunity and hold perpetrators accountable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Throughout the three-day event, participants engaged in sessions discussing key human rights issues including human dignity, freedom, international human rights mechanisms, international crimes, and pathways to justice. Students and faculty actively participated in Q&A discussions, expressing interest in deepening their understanding of these critical topics.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of June 5, countrywide donations through OFP Fundraisers for the Safe Hospital, Safe Healthcare<\/em> campaign have exceeded USD 100,000, according to published reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To support the establishment of safe hospitals and promote access to secure healthcare services in Myanmar, the NUG Ministry of Health launched a fundraising appeal. The campaign aims to raise USD 400,000 and is scheduled to run from May 24 to June 30.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 5. GSCB Urges Continued International Action Against the Military Council<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The General Strike Coordination Body (GSCB) has issued a statement urging coordinated international efforts to ensure continued and effective action against the military junta, following the International Labour Organization\u2019s (ILO) decision to impose measures against Myanmar under Article 33.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GSCB hailed the ILO’s decision as a significant achievement for the Spring Revolution, emphasizing that the campaign for accountability must persist.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIn particular, international scrutiny and pressure will continue to target the junta\u2019s fuel and financial flows. We call on all stakeholders to remain united and take further coordinated action to ensure effective measures are sustained against the terrorist military regime,\u201d the GSCB stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On June 5, during the 113th International Labour Conference held in Geneva, Switzerland, the ILO officially adopted a resolution to invoke Article 33 against Myanmar. The GSCB welcomed this development and expressed deep appreciation to all individuals and organizations\u2014both domestic and international\u2014who contributed to securing the decision.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBy invoking Article 33 of the ILO Constitution to hold the military accountable for its grave violations, this action represents a powerful mechanism to safeguard lives, livelihoods, and human dignity. It also functions as a concrete international measure to isolate and hold the military junta to account,\u201d the statement noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GSCB acknowledged that this milestone was made possible by the collective efforts of grassroots public resistance, individual advocates, domestic and international governments, employer organizations, local and international labour unions, civil society networks, ground-level strike committees, and participants across the revolution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It further expressed gratitude, on behalf of the people of Myanmar, to the governments of all countries that supported the decision\u2014excluding only Russia, China, Belarus, Poland, and Laos, which did not.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Myanmar Women\u2019s Union has reported that the terrorist military junta, since attempting its February 1, 2021 coup, has committed numerous war crimes, crimes against humanity, and systematic human rights violations over the past four years.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May 2025 alone, the junta significantly escalated its use of airstrikes compared to previous months, leading to widespread violence. As a result, 92 women lost their lives<\/strong> within just one month.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the Myanmar Women\u2019s Union, the data in this report was compiled through its Women\u2019s Documentation and Research Initiative, drawing from verified information from credible media outlets and on-the-ground sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To commemorate World Environment Day<\/strong> on June 5, 2025, a total of 155 trees<\/strong> were planted in Salin Township, Yama Pin District. The tree species included both shade and ornamental trees such as kan kaw (Dipterocarpus spp.), khayay (Terminalia spp.), and flowering plants in various colors\u2014blue, yellow, red, and orange\u2014alongside mezali (Cassia siamea), Manjensha, and Tabe Buia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The planting initiative was jointly carried out by representatives of the People\u2019s Administration Committees<\/em> (Pa Ka Pha and Pa La Pha), including local officials responsible for education, legal affairs, electricity, and natural resources; the Secretary and Deputy Secretary of Natural Resources from Yama Pin Township; district officials; village Pa Ka Pha representatives; and a total of 45 participants<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
