Investigations into the extent of casualties and damage were still ongoing at the time of reporting.

Following the ambush, regime troops indiscriminately fired both heavy and small arms, but the attacking forces were able to retreat successfully without sustaining any casualties, according to the statement.

========================

🚩🚩 2. Nevertheless, regime soldiers were overwhelmed and fled in disarray.

The ambush operation was jointly executed by forces under Battalion (3802) Subdivisions (5), (2), (3), (4), the Underground Guerrilla Force (Oakpho), and also supported by Battalion (3803) and Battalion (3801) Subdivision (6) AyeYar Nyi Naung from Tharyawaddy District.

Following the regime forces’ retreat, clearance operations were conducted, resulting in the seizure of ten regime soldiers’ bodies, eleven guns, one 60mm mortar, various ammunition, and other military equipment.

Additionally, on the morning of April 27, near Kyunkone Village in Sanpote Sub-Township, a soldier who had recently graduated from Training Batch (8) was captured alive, along with a firearm and other military equipment, by the joint forces of Battalion (3802) Subdivisions (5) and (4) Underground Guerrilla Force – Oakpho.

========================

🚩🚩 3. One Civilian and One Resistance Fighter Killed, and a Forward Camp Abandoned Following Heavy Clashes in Moe Bye

April 28
Radio NUG

On April 27, in Moe Bye, Shan South, a military column of over 100 troops from the 422nd Light Infantry Battalion (LIB), based in Moe Bye, launched an assault, leading to fierce fighting with local resistance forces, according to PDF Strategy (1) under the Southern Shan State Military Command.

During the battle, one resistance fighter from Moe Bye Battalion 1 (P3-1001) was killed. Moreover, due to indiscriminate artillery shelling by the regime forces, a shell landed and exploded within a village, killing one civilian.

Then, at approximately 5:00 a.m. on April 28, more than 300 regime troops from the 422nd LIB initiated another offensive towards Moe Bye. Resistance forces under PDF Strategy (1), the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF), and allied groups mounted a counter-offensive, inflicting heavy casualties on regime forces, according to reports.

The regime troops also received heavy artillery support from bases in Hsihseng and Loikaw, in addition to aerial bombardments from jet fighters, resulting in widespread destruction of civilian homes in Moe Bye.

Due to the regime’s overwhelming artillery and aerial attacks, one forward defensive post had to be abandoned. In the course of these events, three resistance fighters sustained injuries, one of whom was critically wounded.

In light of the situation, the resistance forces urged domestic and international donors to provide emergency assistance to sustain the defense of Moe Bye. Civilians were also advised to thoroughly assess the ground situation before traveling to or through Moe Bye, given the likelihood of further clashes.

========================

🚩🚩 4. Lashio Surrendered Back to Junta; Emerges as an Embarrassing “China Model” Under Beijing’s Pressure

April 28
Radio NUG

Lashio, which had been captured by Kokang forces during the “Operation 1027” offensive, was handed back to the military junta around April 21, after nine months of control. According to PDF Insight, the handover was carried out under heavy pressure from China, which included the arrest of Kokang leaders and the dismantling of their family units.

China’s Special Envoy for Myanmar Affairs, Deng Xijun, personally supervised the transfer by setting up a working office in Lashio to oversee the process closely. It is noted that China, lacking trust in both the Kokang forces and the junta, sought to maintain tight control to ensure no deviations occurred.

At a meeting held in Fuhua City, China, on August 27, 2024, Deng Xijun coordinated with the Wa-led United Wa State Army (UWSA) to impose heavy sanctions on the Kokang group. Details of this meeting leaked about two months later, revealing China’s intensifying grip over Myanmar affairs and its dominance over border areas.

The so-called “Embarrassing Lashio Model” starkly reflects China’s prioritization of economic interests and border stability, effectively illustrating a temporary arrangement brokered between the junta and Kokang forces under Beijing’s oversight. Analysts note that this model is unlikely to replicate successfully beyond the immediate border regions closely tied to China.

Dissatisfaction is also reportedly growing within the junta itself, with criticism that China’s interference is undermining Myanmar’s sovereignty. Both domestic and international condemnation of Beijing’s heavy-handed involvement continues to mount.

Currently, Myanmar’s military and political landscape remains increasingly entangled under China’s pressure and border control ambitions, presenting significant challenges to the country’s ongoing revolution and nation-building efforts. Analysts conclude that Myanmar’s youth generation and political leaders will have to independently build the new nation that the people aspire to, through their own strength and resilience.

========================

🚩🚩 6.
