April 18 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) Myanmar, more than 4.3 million people<\/strong> in Myanmar are now in urgent need of access to clean water and sanitation support<\/strong> in the aftermath of the earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This figure marks a significant increase from the 1.1 million<\/strong> people who required such assistance prior to the disaster. UN OCHA reported that water supply systems have been severely damaged<\/strong>, and over 42,000 latrines have collapsed<\/strong>. Additionally, electricity disruptions<\/strong> are further hampering efforts to transport and distribute water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UN OCHA Myanmar stated that humanitarian partners are aiming to provide safe water, emergency latrines, and hygiene assistance to one million people<\/strong> identified as the most vulnerable, in an effort to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF announced on April 18 that all forms of assistance and support provided by UNICEF, as well as partnering NGOs and INGOs, are completely free of charge<\/strong>, and that any suspected misconduct<\/strong> can be reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The aid and support being delivered by staff from UNICEF and its partner organizations are entirely free. Whether in response to natural disasters or any other context, staff members providing assistance to children, adolescents, and adults are strictly prohibited from demanding or accepting any form of compensation\u2014monetary, sexual, or otherwise\u2014in exchange for assistance,” the statement read.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

UNICEF further emphasized that if anyone has witnessed, experienced, or suspects any form of exploitation, abuse, or misconduct committed by aid workers<\/strong>, they are encouraged to come forward and report it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to local Kachin news agencies, four women have died following a wild elephant attack<\/strong> in Muladi Village<\/strong>, Putao Township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The incident occurred in the lead-up to the Easter festivities<\/strong> on April 16<\/strong>, when one of the victims, a woman in her 30s, was out gathering leaves in preparation for communal meals. She was the first to be fatally attacked. The elephant returned the next night on April 17 at around 10 PM<\/strong>, killing another woman, followed by two more women\u2014both in their 80s\u2014on April 18 at 4 AM and 7 AM<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The rampaging elephant also damaged several homes in the village<\/strong>, prompting residents to flee to safer areas<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar pop icon Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein<\/strong> has raised more than MMK 839.5 million<\/strong> through two successful benefit concerts held in Australia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The events\u2014\u201cPhyu Phyu in Sydney\u201d<\/strong> and \u201cPhyu Phyu in Melbourne\u201d<\/strong>\u2014were organized under the “Phyu Phyu in Australia” banner and met with widespread support and enthusiastic attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A statement from the organizing team read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cFrom the two concerts, the Phyu Phyu in Australia team raised a total of AU$305,281\u2014equivalent to over MMK 839.5 million.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein herself shared the news with her fans, adding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to announce that the Phyu Phyu in Australia team has raised more than MMK 830 million from our Sydney and Melbourne shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the original fundraising goals, over MMK 60 million has already been allocated to provide immediate relief for victims of Myanmar\u2019s recent earthquake<\/strong>, reflecting the team\u2019s swift humanitarian response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The singer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated fans in Sydney and Melbourne<\/strong>, as well as to volunteers, donors, sponsors, food vendors, and auction item contributors<\/strong>, along with all the generous individuals who offered their time, energy, and ideas. She referred to these many helpers as \u201csesame seeds\u201d\u2014a traditional Burmese term of endearment for indispensable contributors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
