Over 4.3 Million People in Myanmar Urgently Need Clean Water and Sanitation Support Following the Earthquake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 18 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA) Myanmar, more than&nbsp;<strong>4.3 million people<\/strong>&nbsp;in Myanmar are now in&nbsp;<strong>urgent need of access to clean water and sanitation support<\/strong>&nbsp;in the aftermath of the earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This figure marks a significant increase from the&nbsp;<strong>1.1 million<\/strong>&nbsp;people who required such assistance prior to the disaster. UN OCHA reported that&nbsp;<strong>water supply systems have been severely damaged<\/strong>, and&nbsp;<strong>over 42,000 latrines have collapsed<\/strong>. Additionally,&nbsp;<strong>electricity disruptions<\/strong>&nbsp;are further hampering efforts to transport and distribute water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UN OCHA Myanmar stated that humanitarian partners are aiming to&nbsp;<strong>provide safe water, emergency latrines, and hygiene assistance to one million people<\/strong>&nbsp;identified as the most vulnerable, in an effort to prevent the situation from deteriorating further.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc<strong>&nbsp;2. All Aid Provided by UNICEF and Partnering NGOs\/INGOs is Free of Charge \u2013 Reports of Misconduct Can Be Submitted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 18 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>UNICEF announced on April 18 that&nbsp;<strong>all forms of assistance and support provided by UNICEF, as well as partnering NGOs and INGOs, are completely free of charge<\/strong>, and that any&nbsp;<strong>suspected misconduct<\/strong>&nbsp;can be reported.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The aid and support being delivered by staff from UNICEF and its partner organizations are entirely free. Elephant Attack in Putao Results in Death of Four Women<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 18 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to local Kachin news agencies,&nbsp;<strong>four women have died following a wild elephant attack<\/strong>&nbsp;in&nbsp;<strong>Muladi Village<\/strong>, Putao Township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The incident occurred in the lead-up to the&nbsp;<strong>Easter festivities<\/strong>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<strong>April 16<\/strong>, when one of the victims, a woman in her 30s, was out gathering leaves in preparation for communal meals. She was the first to be fatally attacked. The elephant returned the next night on&nbsp;<strong>April 17 at around 10 PM<\/strong>, killing another woman, followed by two more women\u2014both in their 80s\u2014on&nbsp;<strong>April 18 at 4 AM and 7 AM<\/strong>, respectively.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The rampaging elephant also&nbsp;<strong>damaged several homes in the village<\/strong>, prompting&nbsp;<strong>residents to flee to safer areas<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>========================<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc<strong>&nbsp;4. Singer Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein Raises Over MMK 839.5 Million from Two Shows in Australia<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>April 18 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Myanmar pop icon&nbsp;<strong>Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein<\/strong>&nbsp;has raised more than&nbsp;<strong>MMK 839.5 million<\/strong>&nbsp;through&nbsp;<strong>two successful benefit concerts held in Australia<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The events\u2014<strong>\u201cPhyu Phyu in Sydney\u201d<\/strong>&nbsp;and&nbsp;<strong>\u201cPhyu Phyu in Melbourne\u201d<\/strong>\u2014were organized under the &#8220;Phyu Phyu in Australia&#8221; banner and met with widespread support and enthusiastic attendance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A statement from the organizing team read:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cFrom the two concerts, the Phyu Phyu in Australia team raised a total of AU$305,281\u2014equivalent to over MMK 839.5 million.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Phyu Phyu Kyaw Thein herself shared the news with her fans, adding:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m thrilled to announce that the Phyu Phyu in Australia team has raised more than MMK 830 million from our Sydney and Melbourne shows.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>In addition to the original fundraising goals, over&nbsp;<strong>MMK 60 million has already been allocated to provide immediate relief for victims of Myanmar\u2019s recent earthquake<\/strong>, reflecting the team\u2019s swift humanitarian response.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The singer expressed heartfelt gratitude to the&nbsp;<strong>dedicated fans in Sydney and Melbourne<\/strong>, as well as to&nbsp;<strong>volunteers, donors, sponsors, food vendors, and auction item contributors<\/strong>, along with all the generous individuals who offered their time, energy, and ideas.
