As of April 6, the National Unity Government (NUG) has released a report detailing the damages and casualties in the four regions most severely impacted by the powerful earthquake measuring magnitude 7.7, which struck approximately 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Naypyidaw Council Area<\/strong>:
A total of 478 people were killed<\/strong>, 835 injured<\/strong>, and 11 reported missing<\/strong>, while 338,803 people were affected<\/strong>. Infrastructure damages include 5,600 houses<\/strong>, 1,124 religious buildings<\/strong>, 380 schools<\/strong>, and 2,548 basic infrastructure facilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mandalay Region<\/strong>:
There were 1,808 fatalities<\/strong>, 654 injuries<\/strong>, and 205 people missing<\/strong>, with 2,249,058 affected individuals<\/strong>. Damages consist of 17,637 houses<\/strong>, 3,388 religious buildings<\/strong>, 127 schools<\/strong>, and 1,537 basic infrastructure facilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sagaing Region<\/strong>:
The earthquake claimed 693 lives<\/strong>, left 870 injured<\/strong>, and 2 people missing<\/strong>, affecting 428,761 individuals<\/strong>. A total of 4,745 houses<\/strong>, 400 religious buildings<\/strong>, 40 schools<\/strong>, and 505 basic infrastructure facilities<\/strong> were reported damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Bago Region<\/strong>:
Reports confirm 68 deaths<\/strong>, 234 injuries<\/strong>, and 258,499 people affected<\/strong>. Property damage includes 465 houses<\/strong>, 19 religious buildings<\/strong>, 5 schools<\/strong>, and 11 basic infrastructure facilities<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Win Myat Aye, Head of the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH), stated that the CRPH\u2019s participation in the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly<\/strong> was an unavoidable necessity, driven by the need to represent the people who are enduring not only the military council’s oppression but also the additional devastation caused by the recent earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI have been attending the Inter-Parliamentary Union Assemblies since the 146th session. Each time, our participation has been by formal invitation and recognition by the IPU,\u201d said the Union Minister.
\u201cThe international parliamentary community has acknowledged CRPH as the legitimate legislature of Myanmar. Consequently, our elected parliamentary representatives have been given opportunities to join and engage in these discussions. For that, we are deeply grateful.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He added:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEvery time I have attended these sessions, I have worked to the best of my ability to inform the international community about the suffering of our people, the violations of human rights, and the urgent needs of the population.
This time, however, is particularly exceptional. Our people\u2014already enduring immense hardship\u2014are now facing yet another layer of suffering due to the recent catastrophic earthquake.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Win Myat Aye further emphasized:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWhenever such a massive natural disaster strikes, the people\u2019s suffering deepens into a dire situation. At a time when the international community is becoming increasingly attentive, we must discuss how we can best deliver relief and rescue efforts to our people.
That is why I deemed it absolutely essential to attend this assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 6 at 10:00 AM, the National Unity Government\u2019s Interim Central Committee for People\u2019s Administration<\/strong> convened the 4\/2025 coordination meeting<\/strong> with the People\u2019s Administration Teams from Yangon Region<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting commenced with opening remarks delivered by a member of the Secretariat of the Interim Central Committee, representing the Ministry of Electricity and Energy, as well as a Deputy Minister.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the session, the People’s Administration Team members engaged in discussions and sought clarifications regarding the implementation of joint administrative initiatives. Relevant departmental representatives provided responses and explanations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The meeting was attended by senior officials including Union Deputy Ministers, Associate Ministers, and departmental heads, along with township-level representatives from Yangon Region. The session concluded at 12:00 noon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 4. Three USAID Staff Members Providing Earthquake Assistance in Myanmar Dismissed<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to The New York Times<\/em>, Marcia Wong, a former USAID official, revealed that three USAID staff members who were recently deployed to Southeast Asia to assist earthquake-affected communities in Myanmar have been notified that they will be dismissed by the end of this week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Among the three individuals, one was dispatched from Washington, D.C., while the other two had traveled from Manila and Bangkok respectively. All three are currently in Mandalay, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the administration of U.S. President Donald Trump, significant downsizing measures are reportedly underway at USAID, including plans to terminate a large portion of its workforce and to cut approximately 84 percent of its projects.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The three dismissed staff members were said to have been diligently and compassionately focused on ensuring the delivery of humanitarian aid to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 5. No Rescue Group Permitted to Operate Independently in Earthquake Relief Efforts Without Prior Approval, Says Junta\u2019s Deputy Leader Soe Win<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Myanmar junta\u2019s deputy commander-in-chief Soe Win stated during a special meeting of the military council that no organization<\/strong>\u2014domestic or international\u2014would be permitted to conduct independent earthquake relief operations unless they first obtained prior authorization. He emphasized that only groups cooperating directly with the military council would be granted permission to operate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cRescue and relief groups must not operate independently under any circumstances. Only organizations that have sought and received prior permission will be allowed to function, and they must collaborate closely with designated authorities,\u201d he stated. \u201cChief Ministers of Regions and States must ensure that any rescue or NGO group entering their jurisdictions will only be permitted to work in coordination with their respective official disaster response teams,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The military council, which seized power by force, has also imposed restrictions on international media access to earthquake-affected areas, limiting their ability to report directly from the ground.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the morning of April 6, the Earthquake Emergency Relief Committee of Sagaing Township provided financial support to residents of a village in Sagaing Township whose homes were destroyed in the recent earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A total of 28 households whose homes had collapsed received assistance of MMK 300,000 per household<\/strong>, amounting to a total disbursement of MMK 8.4 million<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
