\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 1. Myanmar Parliamentary Delegation Led by Dr. Win Myat Aye Attends 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly in Uzbekistan<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

April 6 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A delegation representing the Myanmar Parliament, led by Union Parliament Representative Dr. Win Myat Aye, is currently participating in the 150th Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Assembly and its related meetings, taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan, according to an official statement released by the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 5, the Myanmar parliamentary delegation attended the opening ceremony of the Assembly, the Women’s Parliamentary Forum, and the Asia-Pacific Regional Meeting. In addition, the delegation held bilateral meetings with representatives from the IPU President\u2019s Office, as well as delegations from Malaysia and Indonesia. During these meetings, they provided updates on the situation in Myanmar and urged for collaborative efforts on issues requiring international support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the bilateral discussions, the Myanmar delegation also raised concerns regarding the recent powerful earthquake that struck the country. They appealed to relevant nations, through their parliamentary counterparts, to effectively increase humanitarian assistance for ongoing rescue and recovery operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dr. Win Myat Aye is scheduled to deliver a speech at the Assembly focusing on raising international awareness of the earthquake and calling for greater aid and support for the affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The 150th IPU Assembly and its associated meetings are being held from April 5 to April 9, 2025. The Myanmar delegation is expected to conduct further bilateral meetings with parliamentary representatives from other participating countries during the course of the Assembly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) is a global parliamentary organization comprising legislative bodies from over 180 countries. The IPU formally recognizes the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH) as the legitimate parliamentary representative body of Myanmar and its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Since March 2023, starting from the 146th IPU Assembly held in Manama, Bahrain, the Myanmar parliamentary delegation has consistently attended these assemblies in person to amplify the voices of the people of Myanmar on the international stage and advocate for greater global understanding and support.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 2. UN Estimates Nearly 17 Million People Affected in Close to 60 Townships by Myanmar Earthquake<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United Nations estimates that nearly 17 million people across approximately 60 townships in Myanmar may have been affected by the recent powerful earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Out of the country\u2019s 330 townships, the quake has potentially impacted residents in about 60, with millions of people in the hardest-hit areas now facing severe challenges due to lack of electricity, clean drinking water, food supplies, and healthcare services.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The UN also reported that disrupted telecommunications, as well as damaged roads and bridges, have made it increasingly difficult to deliver critical humanitarian assistance to those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Humanitarian workers are supporting local frontline response groups and working full-time to provide life-saving assistance to the most severely affected. However, much more still needs to be done, said Tom Fletcher, the UN\u2019s Emergency Relief Coordinator.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 5, during visits to Mandalay and Naypyidaw, Fletcher met with earthquake survivors and heard accounts of loss and hardship, as well as witnessed the resilience and unity among the affected communities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to data compiled as of April 4, the National Unity Government (NUG) reported the following death tolls from the earthquake:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1,808 deaths in Mandalay Region<\/p>\n\n\n\n

686 in Sagaing Region<\/p>\n\n\n\n

497 in Naypyidaw<\/p>\n\n\n\n

105 in Southern Shan State<\/p>\n\n\n\n

66 in Bago Region<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 3. USBA Urges Public to Report Misconduct by Revolutionary Forces Manning Security Posts in Thayet District<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

April 6 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The United State of Burma Army (USBA) has issued a public notice stating that if revolutionary security personnel stationed along major roads in Thayet District, Magway Region are found demanding money, the public has the right to file complaints.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement, released today (April 6), also urged the public to report any instances where USBA personnel on security duty are intoxicated, abusive, or excessively interrogative beyond necessary checks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If such actions cause unwarranted delays or hardship to travelers, the USBA has committed to taking appropriate disciplinary measures. The notice encourages citizens to report such violations directly to USBA Headquarters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The USBA, formerly known as Magway PDF, is a revolutionary armed force that recently rebranded under its new name.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 4. Military Council Violates Ceasefire, Launches Ground, Naval, and Aerial Attacks \u2013 Three Brotherhood Alliance Issues Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

April 6 \u2013 Radio NUG<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Military Council has continued to carry out attacks using ground, naval, and air forces, despite the ceasefire agreement, according to a statement released by the Three Brotherhood Alliance, which includes the Arakan Army (AA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement was issued alongside the release of documented photos showing that the Arakan Army had seized control of the Nyaukkyo Tactical Base, located in Pantanaw Township of Bago Region, which was heavily fortified and defended by the Military Council’s forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to AA, the offensive against the Nyaukkyo base began on March 17 and culminated in its capture on April 2. In a public announcement made on the morning of April 5, the AA confirmed the successful takeover.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement emphasized that although the allied forces had the opportunity to continue targeting retreating Military Council troops scattered across the region, they chose to halt their operations starting April 1 out of respect for the declared ceasefire, and to honor the spirit of the ceasefire announcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

AA also referred to the prior declaration made by the Brotherhood Alliance\u2014comprising the MNDAA, TNLA, and AA\u2014that a unilateral, one-month ceasefire<\/strong> would be observed beginning April 1<\/strong>, under a mutual understanding among the allied groups.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The statement further explained that the unilateral ceasefire was declared out of humanitarian concern<\/strong> for the earthquake-affected populations in Sagaing Region, Mandalay Region, Shan State, Bago Region, Naypyidaw Union Territory, and other areas severely impacted by the 7.7 magnitude earthquake<\/strong> that struck on March 28, followed by a series of aftershocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Although the Arakan Army immediately suspended all military operations in accordance with the ceasefire declaration, the Military Council has, both on and prior to April 2<\/strong>, continued attacks on AA troops in the vicinity of Kyaukphyu and Sittwe<\/strong> in Rakhine State, using heavy artillery, aerial bombardments (drop bombs), air raids, and naval firepower.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Military Council has also been conducting daily counteroffensives<\/strong> against AA military columns in Bago Region, Ayeyarwady Region, and other areas<\/strong>, the AA noted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Specifically, in Kyaukphyu Township<\/strong> alone, the AA reported that on April 2<\/strong>, there were over 90 aerial bombings<\/strong> and at least 60 artillery strikes<\/strong> in a single day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Moreover, on April 3, 4, and 5<\/strong>, the Military Council carried out extensive attacks using naval warships, jet fighters, and ground forces based at the Thitpottaung Naval Base<\/strong>, Dotantaung Police Battalion No. 32<\/strong>, and other nearby military installations. These offensives targeted villages and surrounding areas including Kyatain, Thabyutaung, Pyathe, Pinyshay, Leipkhamaw, Kulabar<\/strong>, and Hinkatpyin<\/strong> in Kyaukphyu Township, deploying artillery, aerial bombs, and munitions from jet fighters and naval vessels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 5<\/strong> alone, there were over 60 aerial bombings<\/strong> and more than 50 artillery strikes<\/strong>, and at 3:45 PM<\/strong>, a Y-12 jet fighter carried out an aerial bombing on a mountain range in Rakhine where AA troops were stationed, according to the AA statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the conflict zones of Sittwe and Pauktaw<\/strong>, the Military Council also launched six 120 mm artillery strikes<\/strong> from the Shwemingan Port<\/strong> area toward the Pauktaw-Ngapyikyun<\/strong> region, intensifying its assaults.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Arakan Army emphasized that all of these military actions starkly contradict the Military Council\u2019s own declaration<\/strong> of a unilateral ceasefire. Despite announcing a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22<\/strong> in response to the earthquake, the Military Council has continued relentless ground, naval, and aerial attacks, which the AA denounced as a complete failure to honor its commitments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government (NUG)<\/strong> also condemned the Military Council\u2019s ceasefire announcement as a deceptive maneuver<\/strong>, pointing to the ongoing airstrikes as evidence of its insincerity regarding humanitarian concerns.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
