The Political Prisoners Network Myanmar (PPNM) announced today, April 4, that inmates at Mandalay\u2019s Obo Prison, who sustained serious injuries due to a powerful earthquake, have been denied medical treatment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earthquake, which struck on March 28, caused severe damage to the women\u2019s dormitories\u2014Dormitory 1 and Dormitory 2\u2014as well as the women\u2019s prison hospital. Several male dormitories, prison workshops, and surrounding walls also collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PPNM confirmed that four individuals lost their lives due to the earthquake\u2014one male and two females\u2014while the identity of another deceased individual remains unverified.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, nine prisoners sustained critical injuries, and more than 40 require hospitalization. While some injuries are too severe to be treated within the prison and require external medical care, many inmates have been denied medical treatment and remain in a restricted state as of today. Furthermore, injured prisoners have not been allowed to contact or meet with their family members.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The prison is currently experiencing severe shortages of essential medical supplies, including pain relievers, antiseptics, wound dressings, and bandages, according to PPNM\u2019s statement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Min Tat Township Public Administration Team has announced that it is prioritizing Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) employees for vacant government positions, provided they meet the required qualifications.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The township administration issued the recruitment notice on April 3, emphasizing that this is a crucial time for rebuilding the community and working towards the eradication of the military dictatorship. It called for collective efforts to foster mutual cooperation among all ethnic groups and establish a fair and transparent civilian administration free from corruption and bias.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Qualified applicants can apply through the Min Tat Township Public Administration Office or their respective district and municipal administration offices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As this recruitment takes place during the revolutionary period, selected candidates will not receive salaries or benefits. Instead, the administration is seeking individuals who are committed to the revolution and willing to serve despite the hardships.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Burmese Rohingya Organisation UK (BROUK) has officially called on the Thai government, an Interpol member state, to arrest fugitive junta leader Min Aung Hlaing, who is currently in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Min Aung Hlaing is facing an arrest warrant issued by an Argentine court on February 13 for his involvement in the genocide against the Rohingya people. On April 1, the court notified the International Criminal Police Organization (Interpol) about the warrant.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Argentine court formally sent Min Aung Hlaing\u2019s arrest warrant to Interpol on April 1. As he is currently in Bangkok attending the BIMSTEC Summit, BROUK has urged Thailand\u2014an Interpol member since 1951\u2014to arrest him in accordance with international procedures.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports indicate that if Thai authorities comply with Interpol\u2019s request, the junta leader could face immediate arrest in Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The court in Buenos Aires, Argentina, has issued arrest warrants for 23 junta officials involved in the Rohingya genocide, as well as former State Counselor Aung San Suu Kyi and former President U Win Myint. However, Min Aung Hlaing is currently the only individual whose warrant has been forwarded to Interpol for international enforcement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reports from Thai media indicate that a protest took place in Bangkok, Thailand, where a banner reading “We Do Not Welcome Murderer Min Aung Hlaing”<\/strong> was displayed on a bridge over the Chao Phraya River, directly referring to the coup leader.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Min Aung Hlaing arrived in Bangkok on April 3<\/strong> to attend the BIMSTEC Summit<\/strong>, a regional conference focused on multilateral cooperation in technology and economic development in the Bay of Bengal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Invited by the Thai Prime Minister, the junta leader is currently in Bangkok and is scheduled to attend the BIMSTEC meeting today, April 4<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protesters displayed the banner on Somdet Chao Phraya Bridge<\/strong>, near the Shangri-La Hotel<\/strong>, where Min Aung Hlaing is reportedly staying. Photographs from the scene show the banner clearly hung in protest against his presence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In opposition to Min Aung Hlaing\u2019s visit, Myanmar migrant workers in Thailand<\/strong> have been urged by pro-democracy groups<\/strong> to boycott work today, April 4, and wear black as a symbol of protest<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Meanwhile, Thai citizens<\/strong> also staged a demonstration in front of their parliament<\/strong> in protest against the military leader\u2019s visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Myanmar pro-democracy movement<\/strong> has strongly condemned the officials responsible for permitting junta leader Min Aung Hlaing to attend the BIMSTEC Summit<\/strong> held in Bangkok, Thailand.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Min Aung Hlaing has been issued an arrest warrant by the Buenos Aires court in Argentina<\/strong> for his role in the genocide against the Rohingya<\/strong>. He is also responsible for mass killings of civilians<\/strong> in Myanmar, including airstrikes targeting civilians even after the recent earthquake<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Protest groups stated that allowing him to attend the summit despite these crimes demonstrates a lack of empathy for the suffering of the Myanmar people<\/strong>. They condemned the officials responsible for BIMSTEC\u2019s decision<\/strong> to invite him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A forest fire<\/strong> in the Inle region of southern Shan State<\/strong> has spread, destroying the renowned Myanmar Treasure Hotel<\/strong>, owned by crony businessman U Tay Za<\/strong>, according to local sources.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The fire, which broke out on April 3 in the afternoon<\/strong>, spread to the Myanmar Treasure Hotel<\/strong>, consuming the entire structure. Residents and tourism industry professionals confirmed that the hotel was completely destroyed<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The hotel, owned by U Tay Za\u2019s Htoo Group of Companies, was primarily built with wood<\/strong>, making it highly susceptible to fire<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Firefighters from multiple townships, including Nyaungshwe, Nampan, Aye Tharyar, Heho, and Shwe Nyaung<\/strong>, collaborated to extinguish the blaze. The fire was finally put out at 6:45 PM<\/strong>, according to an announcement from Myanmar\u2019s Fire Services Department. However, no official report has been released regarding the estimated financial losses<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
