To inform the public about the emergency response efforts for the Sagaing earthquake, the National Unity Government (NUG) released a report on April 3 detailing the measures taken over the past week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

NUG convened an emergency meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Prime Minister delivered a message to the public.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NUG\u2019s Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has been actively distributing emergency aid to earthquake victims across affected regions. The ministry has channeled received donations toward relief, emergency food supplies, and essential support efforts, working closely with partner organizations to ensure assistance reaches those in need.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of April 2<\/strong>, a total of 1,713.3 million Kyats and an additional 28.568 million Kyats<\/strong> in donations had been collected. So far, over 82.57 billion Kyats<\/strong> have been distributed to earthquake victims across 21 townships<\/strong> in three regions and one state<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Union Minister Dr. Win Myat Aye also expressed gratitude to both domestic and international donors and encouraged continued unity and support in relief efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The National Unity Government\u2019s Representative Office in Japan continues its earthquake relief efforts through its Emergency Earthquake Relief Committee<\/strong>. On April 3, committee representatives met with officials from the Japanese Trade Union Confederation (Rengo)<\/strong> and the Japan Federation of Basic Industry Workers\u2019 Unions (JAM)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the meeting, NUG representatives provided an update on the current humanitarian situation in Myanmar and formally submitted an appeal letter requesting both immediate and long-term assistance for earthquake victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Officials from Rengo<\/strong> and JAM<\/strong> expressed their deep sympathy for the affected Myanmar communities, conveyed their best wishes for a swift recovery, and pledged to provide assistance through various channels.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On March 28, 2025, a major earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 struck 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing, Myanmar, followed by a series of aftershocks. The disaster resulted in numerous casualties among the public. Among those who lost their lives were several healthcare workers who had joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM) following the 2021 military coup, along with their family members, according to a statement released by the Ministry of Health under the National Unity Government (NUG).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Ministry expressed profound sorrow over the loss of lives among the public, CDM healthcare workers, and their families. In response, it has announced efforts to provide all possible assistance to the affected CDM healthcare workers and their families. This support will be coordinated in collaboration with the CDM Success Committee and the CDM Medical Network to help mitigate the impact of the earthquake on these individuals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 5. Under Thai PM\u2019s Leadership, Thailand Complicit in Junta\u2019s War Crimes and Crimes Against Humanity<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Under the leadership of Thai Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, Thailand has become complicit in the Myanmar junta\u2019s war crimes and crimes against humanity, according to Blood Money Campaign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Diplomatically, Thailand has extended an invitation to Myanmar\u2019s military leader, Min Aung Hlaing<\/strong>, to attend the upcoming BIMSTEC<\/strong> regional summit. This move comes at a time when the military regime is facing widespread sanctions from Western nations. The invitation is seen as an attempt to provide the junta with legitimacy on the international stage despite ongoing sanctions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

According to a 2025 report by The New Humanitarian<\/em>, over 6,300 Myanmar refugees fleeing the crisis were arrested in Thailand in 2024 and forcibly deported back to Myanmar. Many of them were subsequently conscripted into the military as forced soldiers, making Thailand a direct enabler of the junta\u2019s forced recruitment practices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thailand’s complicity is further underscored by the involvement of its state-owned energy company PTT<\/strong>, which remains one of the largest investors in Myanmar\u2019s oil and gas sector. Despite the EU\u2019s sanctions<\/strong> and US-imposed restrictions<\/strong>, PTT continues its business partnership with Myanma Oil and Gas Enterprise (MOGE)<\/strong>, a key financial pillar of the junta. Additionally, the Thai government has permitted the arrest and deportation of Myanmar dissidents while maintaining active economic ties with the military regime. These actions collectively demonstrate Thailand\u2019s ongoing and direct support for the junta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, between March 28 and April 1<\/strong>, amid the aftermath of a powerful earthquake, the military junta carried out at least 22 airstrikes<\/strong> across Myanmar. In response to the Thai government\u2019s invitation to Min Aung Hlaing<\/strong>, Thai and Myanmar civil society organizations have strongly condemned the decision and launched protests against Thailand\u2019s collaboration with the military regime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To ensure the security and development of the Ta\u2019ang people, the department\u2014under the administration of PSLF\/TNLA<\/strong>\u2014will begin registering residents, issuing household registration documents, verifying state citizenship, and determining national and foreign residency status. The recruitment process is open to qualified candidates from all ethnic and religious backgrounds who meet the department\u2019s criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
