Acting President Duwa Lashi La stated that the National Unity Government (NUG) must practically demonstrate what it can do and how it can assist earthquake-affected citizens. He made this remark during the NUG\u2019s 10\/2025 government meeting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“I deeply sympathize with the grief and suffering of those affected by the earthquake. At the same time, I cannot ignore the fact that our people are enduring far more hardships due to the consequences of the military coup. It is disheartening to think about this. Unless this brutal military dictatorship is swiftly eradicated, the suffering of our people will only persist and intensify. The lives of our people, already burdened by both natural and man-made disasters, have become unbearably harsh. It is crucial for us to take tangible actions that truly benefit the people. We must show, through real efforts, what we can do and how we can support them,” the Acting President stated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Additionally, he highlighted that while the entire country was mourning the devastation caused by the powerful earthquake, Min Aung Hlaing and the military junta carried out an airstrike on a training school in the territory of Kachin Independence Army (KIA) Brigade 8 on the night of March 31.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“According to initial reports, this airstrike resulted in the deaths of 36 young individuals, with over 20 others suffering severe injuries. I want to express my deepest condolences to KIO\/KIA and the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic incident,” the Acting President added.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\ud83d\udccc\ud83d\udccc 2. Female Victim\u2019s Body Recovered from Collapsed Hotel Aung Ban<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Following the earthquake in Shan State, search and rescue operations continued at the collapsed Hotel Aung Ban on April 2, as efforts were made to locate those trapped under the debris.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At 09:39 AM, rescue teams discovered the body of a deceased woman. The operation is ongoing, with relevant authorities and organizations collaborating to carry out further search and rescue efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As of March 31, a total of nine bodies had been recovered from the hotel, while 24 survivors had been successfully rescued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the fifth day following the earthquake, rescue teams successfully saved a man trapped beneath the collapsed six-story Aye Chan Thar Hotel in Ottara Thiri Township, Naypyidaw. The lower two floors of the building had collapsed, leaving two individuals trapped.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The man was rescued alive through a joint operation involving Myanmar\u2019s emergency response teams and Turkey\u2019s GEA Search and Rescue team.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining trapped individual, and as of now, reports indicate that there may still be more people trapped under the rubble.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On April 1, the Asian Development Bank (ADB) announced that it would provide $3 million in aid to support the people of Myanmar affected by the devastating earthquake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ADB\u2019s Board of Directors is preparing to approve the funding as soon as possible. The aid will be distributed through the United Nations World Food Programme (WFP) and will be used to purchase essential supplies such as drinking water, medicine, and temporary shelters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The magnitude 7.7 earthquake has exacerbated the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Myanmar, adding to the many challenges already faced by its people.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Expressing concern over the severe impact of the earthquake, Winfried Wicklein, ADB\u2019s Director General for Southeast Asia, stated that the $3 million aid package was aimed at supporting emergency response efforts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ADB is a multilateral development bank dedicated to promoting sustainable, inclusive, and resilient growth across Asia and the Pacific.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CDM Medical Network<\/strong> has announced that it will provide 100,000 MMK<\/strong> in financial aid to healthcare CDM members who have suffered injuries or damages due to the recent earthquakes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As part of The Promise Campaign<\/strong>, which initially aimed to establish an insurance fund for healthcare CDM members, an emergency relief program<\/strong> has now been introduced to assist those impacted by the series of earthquakes that began on March 28<\/strong>.
