The National Unity Government (NUG) has announced that all offensive military operations, except for self-defense, will be suspended for two weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This decision was outlined in a statement regarding a temporary ceasefire for humanitarian reasons and emergency relief efforts for earthquake-affected civilians.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At approximately 12:50 AM Myanmar Standard Time on March 28, 2025, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake<\/strong> struck 16 kilometers northwest of Sagaing City<\/strong>, followed by multiple aftershocks. The earthquake, classified as a Major Earthquake<\/strong>, caused widespread destruction in Sagaing, Mandalay, Bago, Naypyidaw, and Southern Shan State<\/strong>, leading to the collapse of houses, buildings, pagodas, mosques, schools, and bridges. Reports indicate that thousands of people have lost their lives, tens of thousands have been injured, and many are in urgent need of rescue and medical treatment<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

To facilitate emergency rescue operations for those trapped in collapsed buildings, homes, and workplaces in the affected areas, the Ministry of Defense of the National Unity Government and the People\u2019s Defense Forces<\/strong> have declared that all offensive military operations, except for self-defense, will be suspended for two weeks starting March 30<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The NUG has also urged the United Nations humanitarian agencies, international organizations, and INGOs<\/strong> to immediately provide emergency rescue and medical assistance to earthquake victims.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, in NUG-administered territories, the government has pledged to ensure security, transportation, and the establishment of temporary rescue and medical centers<\/strong> to facilitate relief efforts carried out by UN humanitarian agencies, international organizations, and INGOs<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sagaing Township (excluding the city area):<\/strong> 18 deaths<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A powerful earthquake has destroyed over 800 houses<\/strong> and left more than 40 people dead<\/strong> in Kaylaw Village, Inle<\/strong>, according to reports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The earthquake, which struck in the afternoon of March 28<\/strong>, severely affected Kaylaw Village, which has a total of 1,057 houses<\/strong>, resulting in the collapse of 818 homes<\/strong>. As of now, the death toll has reached 41<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Local sources report that some bodies remain trapped under the rubble<\/strong>, and urgent assistance is still needed<\/strong> for rescue operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A Myanmar military convoy<\/strong> transporting injured junta soldiers from prolonged clashes near Thein Khun Village, Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region<\/strong>, was ambushed with landmines<\/strong>, according to a report by Dawei Watch<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The attack took place on March 28 at around 10:00 AM<\/strong> when a seven-vehicle convoy<\/strong> from Artillery Battalion No. 306<\/strong> was traveling toward Myeik City<\/strong>. The convoy was struck by landmines near Yanphoe Village<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ambush was carried out by the Bo Kharyin Battalion, Taunggyi Mway Hout Battalion, Myeik Pa Ka Pha, and Pa Ka Pha Zone 3<\/strong>, who also engaged in a firefight using small arms<\/strong>. The clash lasted for approximately one hour<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

During the attack, one junta vehicle was severely damaged and became inoperable<\/strong>, and there were likely casualties among the junta forces<\/strong>. However, the resistance forces reported no casualties<\/strong> on their side.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Myanmar military has been conducting an offensive in the vicinity of Thein Khun Village for over three months<\/strong> as part of its efforts to regain control of the Tanintharyi-Mawtaung trade route<\/strong>, leading to intensified clashes in nearby villages<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
