Burmese in Fort Wayne hold Swan Offering for Burma\u2019s Martyrs Day<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n July 20th<\/sup>, 2009<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>While most of the Burmese community in overseas were holding ceremony to mark 62nd<\/sup> anniversary of Burma\u2019s Martyrs Day, Burmese living in Fort Wayne, In. also gathered together at Zaytawun Burmese monastery to do the Swan Offering, a religious food charity to the monks and attending audience to honor the event.<\/span><\/p>\n \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <\/span>At the event, the Burmese community at the heartland of the US came up with decision to form the most needed volunteer group to assist old, aged or sick Burmese elderly when situation arise. Fort Wayne was regarded as an Angle island for Burmese Refugee community where they always set their first step onto the US soil when they were migrated or relocated from their displaced refugee camps in Thai-Burma border. As the Burmese population was growing in recent years, it was found necessary to have volunteer support groups to help the settlers to assimilate with the local community and the local systems.
