(2 )If a statement is not true,it is false.<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>. (3)If a statement is not false, it is true.<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>. (4) If two statements are joined by a conjunction &#8216;and&#8217; ,then<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nthe joined statement is true when both of the individual statements are true,<br \/>\nand false when at least one of them is false.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>(5)<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>.If two statements are joined<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>by a conjunction<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8216;A<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>or<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>B<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8216; be the joined statement of A and B.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Suppose<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>that<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>&#8216;A<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>or<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>B &#8216;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>is<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>true.Then if<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>A<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>is false,then<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>B has<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>to be true<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>and<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>if<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>B<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>is false , then <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>A<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>has to be true.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nIn other words, &#8216;if A is not true,B must be true and if B<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>is not<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>true, A<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>must be true.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nIn the conversation between the cat and Alice,the last law or&nbsp;formula of Logic has beeen used by the cat to prove that Alice is mad,although Alice herself does not accept it.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>To be able to give a mathematical interpretation,we shall<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nre -write the main points of the conversation as follows.:<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nCat<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I&#8217;m<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>mad.You&#8217;re<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>mad.<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nAlice<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>How do you know<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>that<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>I&#8217;m mad ?<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nCat<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>.<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>You must be<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>or you wouldn&#8217;t<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>come<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>here.<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThere are two statements<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>namely , &#8216;The cat is mad.&#8217;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>and<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&#8216;Alice <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<\/span>is mad .&#8217; The reason for &#8216;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span>Alice<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/span><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<\/span>is mad&#8217; is given by<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&#8216;You must be or you wouldn&#8217;t come here.&#8217; Re writing it mathematiclly it becomes two statements joined by &#8216;or&#8217; in the following way<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>.<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n&#8216;Alice is mad<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>or<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Alice does not come here. &#8216;<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nAccording to the laws of Logic,it means that<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span><o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nIf the statement &#8216;Alice does not come here &#8216; is false, then the statement &#8216;Alice is mad &#8216;must me true. &#8216;Alice does not come here &#8216; is false means that &#8216;Alice comes here &#8216; .<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\nThus it means that &#8216;If Alice comes here,Alice is mad.&#8217; But Alice didn&#8217;t think that proved it at all.It means<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>that Alice does not accept it as the proof.It is for the reader to<\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\n<o:p><\/o:p><\/div>\n<div class=\"MsoNormal\">\ndecide whether to accept it as the proof or not. Whether to accept or not ,<br \/>\n&nbsp;boils down<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>to whether to accept this statement <span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/span>to be true or not .&#8217;If someone comes here ,<br \/>\nthen he or she is mad.&#8217;<span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp; <\/span>Alice does not aaccept it as true..
