They reportedly shot and killed a man in his thirties named Ko Zaw Oo.

Residents of Kattu, Yan Nye, Ka Myaing, Wai Yit and Thein Kone villages in flood-affected Thayetchaung Township continue to flee their homes because of the junta’s military column. After suffering heavy casualties, the military council reportedly used fighter jets, Mi-35 helicopters and drones to launch airstrikes.

Three resistance fighters were injured, and the revolutionary forces reportedly had to withdraw because of the air attacks.

On the morning of October 29, military council forces also carried out another drone attack, injuring two civilian cattle.

In addition, military council troops reportedly arrested four travelers on the road from Pale Township to Kyat Taik Village. It reportedly looted villages in Salin Township and entered Let Taung Gyi Village in Pale Township on October 28, stealing seven civilian motorcycles from a monastery.

The junta reportedly took the stolen motorcycles to Pale town and demanded 350,000 kyats per motorcycle for their return.

5. Greek Foreign Minister George Gerapetritis read the statement during a Security Council media program.

The statement called for the protection of the human rights and fundamental freedoms of women and girls affected by armed conflicts. It strongly condemned all human-rights violations, including sexual violence and gender-based violence.

It also emphasized the importance of ending impunity, holding perpetrators accountable and ensuring accountability in the work of the International Criminal Court.

6. Junta claims 28 AA and PDF members defected in Ayeyarwady; Gangaw District Military Office provides nearly 400 million kyats to frontline soldiers

m.CDM — October 29

The military council, which has suffered heavy losses in the fighting in Sittwe, Rakhine State, and has reportedly lost naval vessels, has issued propaganda claiming that 28 members of the Arakan Army, or AA, and PDF forces defected in Ayeyarwady Region.

According to a junta statement issued on October 28, 15 AA members, one PLF member and 12 PDF members allegedly defected with their weapons and ammunition.

The AA members reportedly came from Thandwe, Pauktaw, Mrauk-U, Minbya and Laymyethna townships. The PDF members reportedly came from Labutta, Kyangin, Nyaungdon, Kyaukkyi and Myaing townships.

They allegedly brought 10 assault rifles, including MA-1, MA-3, M-22 and Type-81 rifles. The junta claimed that they were handed over to their parents at the Southwestern Regional Military Command in Pathein.

There has been no independent confirmation from the organizations concerned regarding the junta’s statement.

Fighting is currently intense in Sittwe and Kyaukphyu. Military observers believe the junta may have issued the claim as timed propaganda following the reported sinking of two military vessels in the Kaladan River in recent days.

Meanwhile, the Gangaw District Military Office of the People’s Defense Force announced that it had provided nearly 400 million kyats in recognition and support to frontline soldiers who have been serving for years in ethnic areas.

The support was provided in accordance with guidance from the NUG Ministry of Defense for soldiers who have served on frontline battlefields from December 2024 until now.

7. Heavy casualties among DSA officers on the Ayeyarwady front; dissatisfaction within the military reportedly rising

m.CDM — October 29

Casualties among military personnel, including officers who graduated from the Defense Services Academy, are reportedly increasing on the Ayeyarwady front, while dissatisfaction within the military is growing, according to the Information and Public Relations Department of the Pathein Township People’s Administration Team.

Young DSA graduates have been sent to frontline battlefields, where many have been wounded or killed. Captain Saw Nay Zin Naing of Light Infantry Battalion 558 was reportedly killed during fighting with Ayeyarwady PDF forces and cremated at Shwe Myintin Cemetery on August 24.

In neighboring Rakhine State, the military has been using air support day and night in an attempt to recapture areas it has lost. However, it has not regained the territory and continues to suffer heavy casualties, reportedly leading to growing dissatisfaction within the military.

Military council troops from the Southwestern Regional Military Command and other military commands have suffered heavy casualties in the fighting. Some wounded officers have reportedly been admitted to Military Hospital No. 4, while those with serious injuries have been sent to Mingaladon Military Hospital for treatment.

Military forces operating on the Ayeyarwady front include units under the Southwestern Regional Military Command, the 11th, 66th and 99th Light Infantry Divisions, and Military Operations Command 13, including Light Infantry Battalions 558 and 203.

Police personnel without combat experience are also reportedly being sent directly to the frontline after completing their training. As a result, the military is suffering heavy casualties and facing defeat.

The military council has reportedly failed to take responsibility for young officers and police personnel killed on the Ayeyarwady and Rakhine battlefields. It is allegedly attempting to conceal the collapse of its forces. Senior officers are also reportedly discriminating against the wives of soldiers who remain missing on the frontline, claiming that the soldiers surrendered to the enemy.

8. Former U.S. lawmaker and religious leaders urge Congress to ban the Myanmar junta’s lobbying activities

m.CDM — October 29

A former U.S. lawmaker and religious leaders have urged Congress to urgently pass legislation banning the Myanmar military junta from spending millions of dollars to hire lobbying firms in the United States in an effort to escape accountability for war crimes.

The call was made by former U.S. Congressman Frank Wolf at the 2026 Frank Wolf International Religious Freedom Award ceremony, held in Falls Church, Virginia, on October 27.

He strongly condemned the junta for hiring the Washington, D.C.-based lobbying firm DCI Group for three million dollars a year in an attempt to improve its relationship with the U.S. government.

He also detailed and condemned the Myanmar military’s severe persecution of religious freedom, particularly its targeting of Christian communities.

Dr. Robin Stoops, chairman of the Burma Research Institute, said Washington should not allow the junta to buy influence with money while the military was bombing churches and attacking religious communities.

He also urged the U.S. Congress to pass legislation permanently closing this avenue of influence.

The call is consistent with recommendations contained in the U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom’s annual report published in March 2026.

On October 19, the Office of International Religious Freedom also reportedly sent a multi-faith appeal to U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, calling for protection for persecuted Christians in Myanmar.

9. Artillery shell fired from Myanmar lands in Thailand, injuring one Thai civilian

m.CDM — October 29

Fighting is continuing in Myawaddy Township, a Myanmar–Thailand border area. Border news sources reported that one Thai civilian was injured when artillery shells fired from Myanmar landed and exploded in Thailand.

At around 5:40 a.m. on October 29, two artillery shells fired from Myanmar reportedly landed and exploded in Mae Ko Kine Village, Mae Sot Township, Tak Province, Thailand.

One shell landed on and exploded inside a Thai citizen’s house, injuring the homeowner. The incident was recorded on video.

The second shell landed in the center of the village but did not explode. Thai authorities inspected the locations where the shells had landed.

A day earlier, on October 28, another shell reportedly landed on a house near Mae Ko Kine Village in Mae Sot Township, seriously injuring the homeowner.

Fighting continues near the Thai–Myanmar border, and residents on the Thai side are increasingly concerned as shells continue to land in Thailand.

The Thai military had announced that it would respond with fire if artillery shells fired from Myanmar landed in Thailand. Despite that warning, shells from Myanmar have continued to fall on the Thai side.

Thai news outlet Khaosod also reported that, early on October 28, the Myanmar military bombed a civilian village in Karen State with two 500-pound bombs, damaging houses, vehicles and a boat.

The attack was reportedly carried out at approximately 1:15 a.m. on October 28 by a Myanmar military MiG-29 fighter jet.

That concludes today’s m.CDM domestic news program.
