Today\u2019s reports include civilian deaths caused by military drone and artillery attacks in Phyu and Salin; damage to a 450-year-old historic pagoda in Ponnagyun; the arrest of a mother in Lewe after she publicly appealed for help when her son was forcibly recruited; the bombing of Sinkhan Bridge near Bhamo; deadly flooding and landslides in Kalay; urgent food and drinking-water shortages in flooded areas of Kyonpyaw; and new efforts to organize CDM civil servants in Karenni State.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In eastern Phyu Township, Bago Region, military forces reportedly attacked Bo Si Khin village with drones and artillery despite no fighting being reported in the area.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The attack took place at around 10 p.m. on September 5 and killed four members of a Hindu family, including a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Salin Township, Magway Region, a school in Yay Nar Tan village was also reportedly attacked with kamikaze drones on the same night. Details of casualties were not yet available. A previous drone strike in the township on August 28 reportedly killed one civilian and seriously injured three others.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Rakhine State, the military also reportedly bombed the approximately 450-year-old historic Gu Wa Pagoda in Ponnagyun Township. Fighter jets and artillery from Sittwe-based units struck the site on the night of September 4, damaging many of the 500 Arahat statues inside the pagoda compound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The report says the historic site has now been damaged three times by artillery and air attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In Lewe Township, Naypyitaw, a mother who went on social media to ask for help after her youngest son was reportedly seized for military service was herself arrested.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Daw Khin Htay Myint, also known as Daw Htay, has three sons, with her two older sons already serving in the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
After her youngest son was reportedly taken for recruitment, she posted a TikTok video on September 4 asking for help. In the video, she said a military officer had taken her son to place him in a militia unit and that she herself had also been threatened.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The following day, military personnel reportedly came to her home and arrested her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military reportedly carried out an airstrike on Sinkhan Bridge, an Ayeyarwady River crossing in Bhamo Township controlled by KIA-led forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bombing took place on the afternoon of September 6 and reportedly damaged the bridge deck, steel framework and side stairways.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
About 190 prisoners of war and family members who had surrendered during fighting on September 2 had previously been temporarily held near the bridge. KIA and allied forces reportedly moved them to a safer location in advance because they feared the area would be bombed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The bridge, an important link between Shwegu and Bhamo, has been under KIA-led control since 2024.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two military vehicles were reportedly targeted by a mine attack in Natmauk Township, Magway Region, on the morning of September 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local resistance forces reportedly prepared two minefields against the vehicles, which were carrying around 20 troops. The first vehicle avoided detonation because of a jammer, but the second vehicle was successfully hit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Casualties were reported as possible, though exact figures were not confirmed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Resistance groups warned civilians to avoid the area because military units were increasing patrols and ambush positions along the route.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least four people have died in Kalay Township, Sagaing Region, after more than a week of continuous rainfall caused flooding and landslides.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Among the victims was a 15-year-old child who was swept away by floodwater on September 6. Other deaths included a 28-year-old man who was swept away while tending cattle and a 50-year-old woman who died after a riverbank collapsed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Large areas of Kalay, Tamu and Tedim Township in Chin State have been flooded, forcing tens of thousands of people to move to safer areas.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least 10 bridges, more than 100 homes, over 30 displacement shelters and some religious buildings have reportedly been damaged or swept away.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Severe flooding has also affected villages in Kyonpyaw Township, Ayeyarwady Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
At least 14 villages were reported to be badly flooded, and aid has been extremely limited. Some residents have reportedly been surviving on bananas mixed with broken rice.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Contaminated floodwater and submerged wells have created an urgent shortage of safe drinking water. Rice, cooking oil, medicine and other basic supplies are also badly needed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nearly 4,000 households in the township have been affected since flooding began in mid-August, while rice fields and other crops have also been damaged.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Wetlet Township Students\u2019 Union has urged local young people to take precautions to avoid being forcibly recruited by the military.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group said young people have reportedly been seized from family businesses, roads and rented accommodations in Wetlet and other cities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said forced recruitment has intensified as the military seeks to rebuild manpower after battlefield losses and territorial setbacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Young people traveling to larger cities for work were urged to remain especially cautious.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
PDF Battalions 4 and 10 in Myingyan District, under the NUG Ministry of Defence, held a graduation ceremony for basic and refresher military training on September 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
New recruits reportedly completed around three months of basic military and combat instruction.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A separate refresher course lasted about one month and included command, administration and combat training. Some trainees were also provided with body armor and helmets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Graduates are expected to continue serving with the two battalions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Karenni State Civil Servants CDM Council has invited representatives from government departments that are not yet represented in the council.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council says it wants to expand efforts related to the rights, security and rehabilitation of CDM civil servants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Representatives must be involved in the Civil Disobedience Movement and be able to represent the concerns of CDM staff from their departments.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The positions are unpaid, but representatives are expected to attend meetings, maintain CDM personnel lists, support fundraising and work on issues related to CDM rights and entitlements.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council currently includes representatives from 12 departments, including the judiciary, health, education, home affairs and general administration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The Magway Federal Unit Interim Government and the Interim Federal Nursing and Midwifery Council held an introductory meeting via Zoom on September 5.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The two sides discussed the council\u2019s goals, structure and ongoing work, along with healthcare delivery in Magway, nursing and midwifery staffing, licensing policies and education-related issues.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The meeting focused on improving coordination and expanding healthcare services for communities in the Magway federal unit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
