According to the Interim Executive Council of Karenni State (IEC), six civilians were killed, seven others injured and two homes damaged.

The military also carried out airstrikes on Hpasawng, as well as areas of Mahlaing Township in Mandalay Region and Wetlet Township in Sagaing Region.

Meanwhile, military columns operating in Kani Township have reportedly raided 35 villages since April. At least 22 airstrikes have also been carried out in the township, killing civilians. Several other civilians were reportedly detained and killed, while homes were burned and residents injured.

Five Civilians Reportedly Killed Near Dawei Special Economic Zone

Fortify Rights said the military killed at least five civilians near the Dawei Special Economic Zone in Yebyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, where Russian-backed investment projects are being pursued.

According to the organization, military forces conducted major operations around the economic zone in July, involving arbitrary arrests, torture, killings and the burning of civilian homes. Among those reportedly killed were three young members of The Ants, a group assisting displaced civilians.

Around 30 homes were also reportedly burned, forcing thousands of residents to flee.

Fortify Rights argued that the operations may be connected to efforts to secure control over the strategically important deep-sea port and economic zone, where Russian-backed projects are planned. It called on companies cooperating with the military authorities to withdraw their investments.

Military Convoy Attacked on Magway-Natmauk Road

A military convoy traveling along the Magway-Natmauk road was ambushed on August 29, according to the Nga Pyay Ma guerrilla group.

The group said five military personnel, including a warrant officer, were killed and another soldier seriously wounded. A military vehicle was also reportedly damaged.

The resistance group said one of its fighters was killed and another suffered minor injuries during the fighting.

At Least 10 Soldiers Reportedly Killed in Natmauk Mine Attack

A military column of around 120 troops entering Natmauk Township was attacked with four mines on August 31, according to the Beikthano People’s Defence Force.

The group claimed at least 10 soldiers were killed and about five seriously wounded. It said the column was unable to continue its advance and withdrew while transporting its casualties.

Residents were warned to exercise extreme caution when traveling near routes used by military columns.

Chin Resistance Group Warns of Continuing Airstrikes

The Chin People’s Union/Chin People’s Army (CPU/CPA) warned civilians to remain alert to air attacks, saying the military has increasingly relied on airstrikes as it faces resistance on the ground in southern Chin State.

The group said an August 30 airstrike on Wum Khum village in Mindat Township killed eight civilians, including schoolchildren, displaced people and elderly residents, while around 15 others were injured.

According to the CPU/CPA, military aircraft have repeatedly targeted residential areas, schools, hospitals, religious buildings and shops.

Forced Recruitment and Military Manpower

In Yangon’s Insein Township, an auxiliary fire officer and his son-in-law were reportedly arrested after allegedly deceiving young men with promises of employment and detaining them for sale to the military. Four young men were reportedly rescued from the house.

Separately, documents reportedly seized during fighting near Mobye indicate that more than 70 percent of personnel in one military column were newly conscripted soldiers. Of 152 personnel listed, 109 were conscripts, while only three were officers and 43 were regular soldiers.

The report also says forced recruitment and street arrests are continuing in Yangon, Mandalay and other cities ahead of the next military training intake.

In contrast, the Arakan Army (AA) reportedly returned a 13-year-old who had voluntarily attempted to join its forces to his family because he was under 18. AA officials said they do not accept minors, students or people in poor health for military service.

Three Die in Boat Accident During Flood-Relief Mission

Three men were killed after a motorboat carrying flood-relief donations capsized near the border of Yegyi and Laymyethna townships in Ayeyarwady Region.

The boat reportedly overturned near Kyat Kwin village on August 31 amid strong currents and a heavy load. The bodies of all three men were recovered the following morning.

At least 15 people have now reportedly died from flooding across parts of Ayeyarwady Region, while at least five others remain missing. Authorities have warned that further heavy rain could occur in early September.

AAPP Says Death Toll Since Coup Has Reached 8,332

The Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) says it has verified the deaths of 8,332 people attributed to the military authorities between February 2021 and August 31, 2026.

Among those killed were 2,287 women and 1,107 children. AAPP said around 5,300 additional reported deaths still require verification.

Its records also show that 31,852 people have been arrested since the coup, with 14,765 still detained. Those arrested include 6,587 women and 640 children.

AAPP cautioned that the actual numbers could be higher than those it has been able to document.

NUG Warns of Fake Website

The National Unity Government has warned internet users about a fake website using the NUG’s name.

NUG spokesperson U Nay Phone Latt said the website has no connection to the National Unity Government and appears designed both to damage the NUG’s reputation and obtain visitors’ personal information.

Users were warned not to click links on the site or enter their Google usernames, passwords or other login information.

Sagaing Interim Government Provides Investigation Training

The Ministry of Home Affairs under the Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Government said 203 personnel attended a training course for investigators and administrative clerks.

The course ran from August 4 to August 30 and included district and township security officials, station chiefs, investigators and crime-record personnel. The training was led by ministry officials and CDM police officers.

The graduation ceremony was held on August 30, with Sagaing Federal Unit Interim Government Home Affairs Minister U Moe Min Win attending and delivering remarks.

That concludes today’s m.CDM domestic news.
