Today\u2019s reports include: NUG Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung expressing condolences over deaths caused by severe flooding in Nepal; military vessels reaching near Shwegu amid airstrikes and artillery attacks that have reportedly killed at least 10 civilians; intense fighting near Moe Bye; developments in Chin and Rakhine states; Karenni forces recapturing a military hilltop position near Loikaw; plans for greater military cooperation among Mon armed groups; defections and captures of military personnel; and the military authorities threatening legal action against bookstores selling BL and GL books.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

National Unity Government Foreign Minister Daw Zin Mar Aung said she was deeply saddened by the loss of life and widespread destruction caused by severe flooding in Nepal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She expressed condolences to the families and loved ones of those who died and said her thoughts were also with those who remain missing, the injured, and communities affected by the disaster.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She said she hoped those still missing would be found safely and that the injured would make a swift recovery. She added that the people of Myanmar shared the grief of the people of Nepal and wished them strength and resilience as they recover from the tragedy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cOur thoughts, sympathy and solidarity are with the people of Nepal,\u201d she wrote in her condolence message.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

A group of military vessels has reached Shwegu Township in Kachin State, while airstrikes and artillery attacks have continued against villages along the Irrawaddy River, according to local residents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The vessels departed Mandalay\u2019s Gaw Wein port on August 21 and traveled through Thabeikkyin, Tagaung, Htigyaing and Katha before continuing upriver toward Shwegu. By August 28, most of the vessels had reportedly arrived near Shwegu\u2019s ports.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Local residents said at least 10 civilians have been killed amid continuing airstrikes and artillery fire. Fighting has also been reported east and west of Shwegu and around Thinbaw Inn village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A woman from Thapyay Hla village was reportedly killed by artillery fired from a military base in Shwegu on the night of August 27. More than 20 air attacks were also reported against villages including Bo Kone, Kyauk Gyi, Kyauk Ta Lone, Yay Lel, Sin Tat and Thinbaw Inn, damaging homes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, in Chaung Wa village, Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, two brothers returning from school stepped on a landmine on August 26. Seven-year-old Maung Kaung Pyae Sone died at the scene, while his 12-year-old brother, Maung Tun Min Aung, was injured.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It has not been independently confirmed which group planted the mine.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heavy fighting broke out near the foot of Loi Yin Mountain in Moe Bye Township along the Shan-Karenni border after a military column of nearly 200 troops advanced into the area, according to the Moe Bye People\u2019s Defence Force, or MB PDF.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group said the military carried out at least 15 bombing attacks during the fighting and fired more than 80 artillery rounds from bases in Pekon, Moe Bye, Loikaw and Loilin Lay.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Several MB PDF members reportedly suffered minor injuries from artillery explosions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
MB PDF also referred to earlier clashes in recent months. It said resistance forces captured a military outpost near Moe Bye on June 29, taking a prisoner, weapons and ammunition. Further fighting occurred near Loi Yin on July 7 and 8.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On August 26 and 27, the military reportedly attacked resistance positions with artillery and drones before advancing on the ground. MB PDF said its forces and allies later conducted drone attacks that caused casualties among military troops.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The group warned civilians that fighting around Moe Bye could intensify and urged people not to use roads that have been closed because of military operations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The CDF-Tonzang said it attacked a ZRA-EC position in Nak Zan village, Tonzang Township, Chin State, on August 28 and seized ammunition magazines and military equipment after ZRA members withdrew.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
However, ZRA-EC official Peter Kimm Thang denied that the base had been captured. He said about seven ZRA troops resisted an attack by around 20 CDF-Tonzang fighters and that the attackers later withdrew toward An Lun village.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
CDF-Tonzang said the operation was carried out in response to alleged abuses by the ZRA-EC, including the torture and killing of a displaced civilian accused of having links to the CDF. It also said it would continue working with the Chinland Council and allied forces to regain control of Tonzang Township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Separately, Chinland Council foreign affairs official Dr. Shwe Khar said the military is withdrawing troops from the 77th Light Infantry Division in northern Chin State and replacing them with police battalions as it tries to establish administration in areas under its control.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He said the military does not fully control the Kalay-Hakha and Kalay-Tedim roads and has established more than 30 new positions in areas where it previously had no permanent bases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In southern Rakhine State, the Arakan Army has reportedly imposed an overnight curfew in Thandwe, Gwa and Taungup townships beginning August 23 because of increased military activity. The curfew runs from 11 p.m. to 5 a.m., with restrictions also imposed on fishing activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The military has reportedly conducted reconnaissance flights, airstrikes and naval operations around Taungup, Thandwe, Gwa, Kyeintali and Ngapali. Eight civilians were reportedly killed in an airstrike on Kyeintali on August 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Karenni resistance forces have reportedly recaptured a military hilltop position in Loikaw Township.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Karenni sources said the position, east of Loikaw, was attacked on August 26 and captured after military troops abandoned it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
An official from the Karenni Nationalities People\u2019s Liberation Front also confirmed the seizure and said some small arms were recovered.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pro-military social media accounts have acknowledged the loss, describing the position as one of the closest hilltop bases to Loikaw.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Fighting remains intense in Demoso, Hpruso and Moe Bye as military forces continue ground offensives. MB PDF has warned civilians not to travel on several roads linking Moe Bye, Loi Wain, Loi Yin, Li Wo village and Nan Mei Khon because of ongoing fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Mon State Federal Council says it will work to strengthen national unity and military cooperation among Mon armed organizations while coordinating with ethnic revolutionary organizations and Spring Revolution forces.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In a statement marking the 79th Mon Revolution Day, the council said it would continue fighting to end military dictatorship and other forms of authoritarian rule.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It said its long-term objective is to help build a federal democratic union based on political equality, democracy and federalism, while establishing a Mon State with full rights to self-determination.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The council urged Mon people and other ethnic communities living in Mon State to participate actively in the struggle for equality, self-determination and federal democracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The NUG Defence Ministry\u2019s Tanintharyi Regional Command Strategy 33 also issued a statement calling for cooperation among allied revolutionary forces and ethnic communities in overcoming challenges and working toward a new federal democratic country.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

People\u2019s Goal said 13 members of the military side defected during the second and third weeks of August, while seven others were captured as prisoners of war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
According to the organization\u2019s records, a total of 20 soldiers, police officers and militia members either defected, surrendered or were captured during the period.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The 13 defectors came from Karen State, Magway Region and Chin State. Eight were newly recruited conscripts, while three were militia members from Sagaing Region.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Seven soldiers were captured in Karenni State and Magway Region, including one conscript.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
People\u2019s Goal urged members of the military and allied forces to surrender or defect in order to protect themselves and their families rather than continue fighting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The military-controlled Ministry of Information has warned that it plans to take legal action against nine online bookstores accused of distributing BL and GL books featuring same-sex romance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
In its August 28 statement, the ministry claimed that the books were inconsistent with Myanmar culture and could negatively influence young people\u2019s thinking and understanding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It also alleged that the books were being published without proper registration, copyright procedures or printing and publishing licenses, in violation of provisions of the 2014 Printing and Publishing Enterprise Law.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The nine online bookstores named were Shwe Eain Literature, Sue Khit Literature, Chi Literature, Bawa Htet Literature, A Yeik, Alora Eleven Book House, Libra Book Shop (Chuu Sein), Nway Oo Kant Kaw Book Shop and Z For Zodiac.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The authorities said they were monitoring the stores\u2019 Facebook, TikTok and Telegram accounts and preparing legal action. Some of the pages were reportedly no longer accessible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The announcement has drawn criticism from members of the LGBT community. A women\u2019s rights activist said the action reflected discriminatory attitudes toward people of diverse sexual orientations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
